Cons
Ten10s tech academy is a fantastic idea... In concept... In practice it is borderline predatory and forces young people into roles they're not suited for in areas of the country that they don't have a say in, all in a desperate rush to start earning commission off of their contracting fees. The idea of Ten10s tech academy is to try to place university graduates in tech roles, giving them training and experience of the workplace in a way that helps them get their foot on the ladder in the tech industry. Where this falls apart is the sales team. The company HEAVILY encourage you to accept the first role you have been offered, no matter where that role is geographically or career wise. The sales team lie about the roles they are putting you forward for, then ghost you when you're in post. This can lead to be inexperienced, green candidates being left stranded in a new city with next to no support. They also give you a MINIMAL amount of time to make arrangements to move city if this is required and depending on the role, they cannot even tell you WHERE they want you to move to. Several of my colleagues were asked to start their new roles with 2 weeks notice despite having no idea where their office was or even what they were supposed to be doing. This led to one of my colleagues being stranded in a new city, with no accommodation, having to spend money on a last minute hotel just to have somewhere to sleep with all their belongings in a safe location. They weren't even able to contact Ten10 due to no weekend staff being available to assist. The company also have no issue with messing with employee paychecks, or entering into timesheet systems with ZERO willingness to make exceptions for exceptional circumstances caused by the company. One of my colleagues was left waiting 6 months to be pay for overtime they worked in MARCH until SEPTEMBER. This was caused by Ten10 contracting the employee into a shift pattern role with absolutely no setting in place for overtime or non mon-fri shift lengths. This placed financial hardship onto them and they informed me that they were worried they may not have enough money to afford their bills due to budgeting for it in mind. The company also offers yearly pay reviews based off of work done within the academy's extra curricular activities such as; - Hosting Lunch and Learns. - Contributing to Ten10 Marketing material. - Speaking to future academy cohorts about your experiences with Ten10's academy or your role. This, however, is not set up for shift pattern work whatsoever. And the team who arrange these events have their favourites, leading to several attempts by myself to engage with the program being frozen out, directly affecting my pay. This felt both unfair and targeted and prevented me from receiving pay rises in a higher bracket. On the topic of favouritism, Ten10 have a habit of ignoring certain employees. one of my colleagues hurt their back and had to work from home for 2 days, the wellbeing team sent them a card and a voucher. Whereas another of my colleagues had a surgery which required them to recover for 2 weeks and was sent nothing. The same colleague also had their birthday forgotten while other employees in the same role got happy birthday wishes and cards sent to them. There are more events I could cite here, but for brevity I think I've said enough. My view on Ten10 has become incredibly cynical and I do not trust the company to actually care about their staff due to the above. Isolating their employees away from their families in an unfamiliar city is not okay. I do have positive things to say about Ten10, but the above has been completely tainted by the areas I have mentioned.
