      Rewarding experience supporting youth development

      Pros

      Supportive colleagues and supervisors who guide new staff. Strong focus on youth rehabilitation and growth. Opportunities to run group programmes and casework. Exposure to family engagement and multi-agency collaboration. Good place to gain frontline experience in social service.

      Workload can be heavy due to residential setting. Emotional demands require strong resilience.

      Pros

      The board members were kind people.

      Cons

      Underpaid, overworked and they didn’t believe in supervision or worker’s mental health. ED then had a toxic personality and working dynamics. Highly temperamental and even openly scolded staff. And rest of management didn’t raise any alarm bells. Some management don’t have the ground knowledge or youth experience to do the work.

      Good place to get into Social Work industry. Senior colleagues willing to take time to teach. Learn what you can.

      Cons

      Management needs to start listening to feedback from staffs on the ground. Not enough benefits, and bad pay increment. No transport claim for staff on shift work.
