Cons
The work environment and company culture here are as toxic as it gets. The turnover is insanely high because it is so miserable to work here AND because they will fire anyone who fights to make the place better. You will be underpaid, overworked, underappreciated, and work in departments run by directors who have no idea what they are doing. If you are in an office role, you will never actually be able to utilize the facilities to recreate. Horrible upper management/director suite full of scheming money-grabbers in a morality vacuum who couldn't care less about their employees (or the environment) and have no checks and balances on their decision making. The director/c-suite is a boys club filled with the CEO's minions who were moved up for always saying "yes sir" NOT for their skills and abilities (there are only one or two exceptions to this). Shady business practices. The CEO used to be a lawyer, and will bend every law to get what he wants. Moral lines are often crossed, but there is no one with the ability or desire to stop him. Long hours/work weeks (60 - 70 hour weeks regularly, with occasional weeks approaching 100 or more) with no overtime compensation. There is no room to grow other than laterally, and they will try to force you into roles and departments that don't fit your skills, experience, or career goals. They are unwilling to invest in infrastructure that the facility ACTUALLY needs, and are even more unwilling to invest in supporting their employees. Most employees have no where to even eat lunch (if you're lucky enough to get a lunch break). There is no legitimate HR department, and every report, particularly those of sexual harassment, will get swept under the rug with no action. If you are a college student looking for a fun summer job in the outdoor industry, go for it. But if you are a working professional looking for an even slightly positive work experience, RUN. No job in admin at the Whitewater Center is worth it unless you enjoy being treated like a disposable cog with no growth opportunities, poor pay, and no morals. I am hesitant to put my role or length of work here as it is a small organization, and it would be easy to connect the dots on my identity. I will say that I worked there for many years in an administrative (office, non-seasonal) role that involved interacting with nearly every department.
