Not at all what it seems

Pros

Upbeat work environment and beautiful office

Cons

Extreme favoritism among employees, unorganized with no structure and company values. CEO has had her share of drama on social media and talks down to people all the time. Only celebrates them by spending a lot of money on the stuff that she likes and makes her look good on IG. Lack of leadership structure and you definitely can feel that everyone knows when you did something wrong but go unnoticed when you are doing a good job.

Most toxic environment I've ever worked in

Pros

Team members were kind & hardworking

Cons

- CEO only cared about the brand/company image; couldn't care less about any other aspect of the business - COO was a yes-man who made his teams jump through impossible hoops, had an infuriating communication style, and frequently pretended like the unreasonable number of things he requested were coming from the CEO or investors - There were no overarching company or individual goals, and only issues were brought up in team meetings so employees felt like they were performing poorly even though there were no defined metrics to achieve - I was encouraged to bury large problems and not communicate to other teams until the last minute, because senior leadership essentially hoped I could work a miracle to fix the problems before anyone had to know about them - Zero autonomy to make strategic decisions; every job description was essentially to cater to the CEO's every whim

Pretty good products, poor leadership

Pros

Hybrid work schedule, offers 401K match and 3 weeks PTO to start. Fairly diverse, however mainly with those below Director-level. Hard working and friendly team members. Lots of free products floating around the office sometimes.

Cons

Lack of diversity and inclusivity within the C-suite and investors. While this is common in corporate, given that this is a company whose customers are predominantly women of color, and mostly Black women at that, there is a strong disconnect within leadership. There is a culture of fear that is fostered by the CEO and COO so people will point fingers and look for scapegoats. Lots of turnover and recently some layoffs due to slowed growth. The CEO and COO make a lot of decisions that aren’t good for the business and the rest of the staff is left to deal with the consequences. As previously mentioned, there is an “inner circle” with the founders friends/ super early hires so beware of what you say to who and know that favoritism exists here. Overall, benefits aren’t competitive. Medical insurance is expensive, no commuter benefits, no fitness reimbursements, no discounts (hotels, car rentals, etc). Limited growth opportunities.
