Pros

Impressive product considering it is fully homegrown.

Cons

#1 biggest con is the CTO - David. No matter how many good people might be at the company, working with him is insufferable. He has expectations set in the skies with no plans to actually execute them. Micromanager and rude. Insane work hours as well. Working from 9 AM - 7 PM at least.

Our goal is to be completely transparent with job candidates during the interview process, providing them with unrestricted opportunity to speak with anyone on the team about what it’s like to work here. We strive to create a fun and rewarding work environment. We also work hard to make sure that everyone’s workload is reasonable and sustainable over the long haul. This is accomplished by through quarterly planning that focuses on setting realistic and measurable goals, biweekly sprint retrospectives and a systematic method to get 360 feedback from team members. Aside from this, we've designed many ways for team members to recharge by having a daily mid-day offline hour, daily whiteboard sessions to learn from each other, no meetings each Wednesday, and a generous vacation policy. That said, individuals who are more comfortable in a large corporate setting that relies on a heavy process would find that their mindset is likely incompatible with how an agile team operates. So during the interview process we give the candidate a day of full immersion into our team culture, so that they can decide for themselves.

Work is technically challenging and can be rewarding.

Cons

Toxic agile development. Constant underestimation of work and corners cut that causes technical debt. Management is dictatorial, saps motivation, and micromanages. Extremely high employee churn.

Thank you for your feedback. We strive to make the work rewarding and provide great opportunities to learn and grow your career. Current employees regularly provide feedback to management to address the type of issues mentioned. Honesty, transparency, and frequent feedback are built into the culture and company best practices. We have a well-defined method of structured, safe feedback in place that team members take advantage of on a biweekly basis. There is also an expectation for each team member to provide 360 reviews on a quarterly basis. This approach has led to many great realizations and improvements that would not have been possible in a typical corporate environment. Any turnover is unfortunate given how much time and effort we invest into our team. However, during the last year we hired many more people than have left. We are expecting this trend to continue as we take on new team members to meet the growing demand for our services.

Pros

- Remote work - Flexible working hours + generous PTO - Bi-annual company retreats - The company has a big focus on automation and has a lot of potential with the amount of software they have built

Cons

1/3 of the company have left within the past 2 months (5/15 employees). All of the company leads were either demoted or have left. This group that left included the first company hire along with most senior employees who had prior work experience. Need I say more?

With these frequent bidirectional touch points, we hope to continue making improvements in how the company operates and employee happiness. We also have a well documented methodology for giving and receiving 360 feedback, such that even difficult topics result in a constructive outcome. We feel that Validate is an amazing place for our team members to grow professionally and feel good about the work they're doing. We're fortunate to have enjoyed some of the lowest turnover in the industry over the past couple years. That said, as a company we will continue to strive to be a gratifying place to work.
