Toxic culture that values profits over employee well-being

Pros

The compensation is decent, but not worth the mental toll you will undergo. There are several company outings that feel "awesome" at first, until you see the culture at play and how the events are more designed to keep people in line and determine your status in the company.

Cons

Management is toxic, self-absorbed, gaslighting, micromanaging, you name it. Your mental health will not be taken care of. Sick employees have been required to work in the office. A culture of "kindness" has management looking over your shoulder at any personal conversation to see if it negatively impacts the opinion of senior leadership. Rules are put in place for staff, but exceptions are made for management. Favoritism is high for those that "fall in line". Anyone with an opinion outside management will be ostracized or punished. When employee turnover in 3 years is basically equal to the amount of staff in the office, that should be a huge red flag. But until the bottom line is truly affected, nothing will change.

Management encourages and supports a toxic culture

Pros

The good side of this business is the quality of the pet food products. However there is absolutely no passion for dogs and cats from the management or board. All the executive team talk about is money, money, money and how to get more of it from customers. What spin can we tell customers to get revenue and more shares - how can we treat our employees so badly they will be so fearful, they will do even more? On a daily basis management demonstrates greediness and ego.

Cons

Do not work at ZIWI. If you are considering a role at this cowboy business please re-read that sentence as many times as possible and walk away. Employees don’t leave ZIWI on their terms, they leave as they are pushed or they have no choice as their soul is being destroyed. You are not treated with respect and you have to constantly watch your back. A high number of people have left ZIWI in the last few years from all markets due to the toxic new leadership and culture. Management all talk about each other behind their backs as well as untruths about their teams to ensure they are top dog. There is no empowerment or development - if you don’t know how to do something don’t dare ask. Conclusion - Do not work at ZIWI. Find a company that you can excel at personally and professionally.

Pros

Products focused on dogs and cats. Good product. Good leadership in New Zealand.

Cons

Toxic management. Very cliquey. You have to be part of the "inner circle" or it is a miserable experience. Some managers don't have their employees backs but will use any chance to throw their own people under the bus to make themselves look better.
