Pros

Easygoing workplace full of talented, hard-working staff--unfortunately, the smartest among them tend not to last. Although the company culture was at one time constructive and inspiring, a combination of despotic management actions, severe turnover and limited opportunities for growth should encourage you to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Cons

Management decisions at the corporate level (Germany) are erratic, poorly communicated and often fleeting, though seemingly well meaning in most cases. Conversely, the Boulder management team's self-interest, ineptitude and blatant disregard for staff morale are starkly apparent. (The few good guys at the director level recently departed, which is a major blow.) Pay is below industry average, benefits are mediocre and internal promotions rare. Over a period of numerous years I witnessed intimidation, exploitation and what appeared to be discrimination (in terms of both pay and participation) against certain staff members. Though employees were often assured during the hiring process that non-compete agreements were intended for the executive team and those with proprietary knowledge only, I am aware of numerous former colleagues who were sued and/or harassed in an attempt to prevent them accepting other offers within the industry. A culture of fear pervades, as employees are generally unhappy but unable to work for firms broadly categorized as 'competitors'. In effect, renewable energy professionals who are passionate about their careers and often highly specialized are forced to abandon their disciplines for a time. juwi was the first company I worked for upon completing my undergraduate degree, and I left feeling disappointed and disillusioned. If you are a recent graduate looking to enter the field of renewable energy, I highly recommend you continue looking.
