⭐Closing Ceremony of DFI Retail Internship Program in Hong Kong⭐ DFI launched our first "Retail Internship Program" this summer with the goal to develop early retail talents through providing meaningful opportunities for students aged 15 and above to learn about the retail industry and gain valuable work experience. To celebrate the outstanding achievement of our interns, a graduation ceremony was held recently to mark the completion of their DFI internship journey. We invited our leaders from #WellcomeHK, #7ElevenHK and #ManningsHK and industry partners to share their valuable experience and industry insights, and to present graduation certificates and souvenirs to our amazing interns! The program has been a huge success as we received more than 800 applications and onboarded 202 students as our Retail Interns this summer. Unlike any other internship, we offered flexible working hours and locations to accommodate students’ busy schedule. We also provided various workshops and frontline job opportunities for Interns to explore their future career interests and enhance their competitiveness in the job market. The highlight? More than half of the interns decided to work on a part-time basis after the program to continue their growth and development at DFI 🤝🏻😉. It’s a wrap for now and we look forward to welcoming our next group of Retail Interns very soon - stay tuned on this space!
Walk Up Jardine House Returns Bigger and Better in Hong Kong! Being a responsible organisation, DFI has a role to play in actively supporting our community in need. Every year in Hong Kong, we support the annual MINDSET Hong Kong | The Jardine Matheson Group Charity fundraiser Walk Up Jardine House 🏢🏢 through stepping to boost mental health awareness and raise money for the underserved mental health community. Themed “Your Mind Matters” this year, the virtual race is now live for two weeks until 26 September, and the physical race will be held in October. As the Major Sponsor and a long-term supporter of this meaningful cause, we encourage our team members to join us to achieve a higher goal in Serving the Communities. DFI Singapore Awarded President’s Certificate of Commendation Our Singapore team was recently honoured with a prestigious national award – the President’s Certificate of Commendation (COVID-19) – for our contributions to the nation’s fight against COVID-19. Yoep Man, Managing Director of Food of Singapore, represented the team in receiving the award from the President of Singapore, Halimah Yacob, at the ceremony. This commendation not only recognises our efforts to keep Singaporeans safe amid the pandemic but also shows the nation’s appreciation towards our amazing store team members who worked tirelessly to maintain the food and essential supplies during the lockdowns. We are very proud of our team members’ dedication, professionalism, and perseverance in serving our customers, as well as a strong sense of unity as part of DFI Retail Group and the Singaporean community. ♻️ Achieve Sustainability Together: Milk Carton Recycling in DFI DFI is committed to the transition towards a circular economy by actively reducing and managing our waste streams. We are full of environmentally conscious team members who echo our ESG commitments. At our DFI Store Support Centre in Hong Kong, a green volunteering group organised a voluntary recycling programme and recycled over 600 milk cartons consumed in the office within two months, equivalent to about 140 rolls of toilet paper in weight! Unlike beverage cans and plastic bottles, beverage cartons are more challenging to recycle because they are made of mixed materials. Despite this challenge, our team members are eager to reduce office waste by finding a recycling channel. Under the collaborative effort with our tea ladies and team members across functions, we collected and cleaned the milk cartons, then delivered them to a community green station to ensure proper recycling. Besides our team members' voluntary programmes, DFI continues to collaborate with our landlord and waste solution partners to improve our recycling. We are transforming the way we source our products, as well as striving for plastic reduction across our businesses and value chains. Our Own Brand products are now switching to more environmentally friendly materials, eliminating unnecessary packaging, and increasing the use of recycled content. Using the Consumer Goods Forum Golden Design Rules as a reference, we are committed to improving the sustainability of our Own Brand product packaging by removing plastic components or by using recyclable, reusable or compostable materials wherever possible. DFI Sustainability Series: Water Loop Refrigeration System 💧 How do we slow down the climate crisis by improving our refrigeration system? Circulating water instead of refrigerants can help! Refrigerants are often the largest source of carbon emissions among retailers, for instance, they contribute to around 40% of our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions. We are the first in Hong Kong to trial the Water Loop refrigeration technology, circulating water instead of refrigerant gases around our stores for cooling, which significantly reduces carbon footprint and increase the efficiency of our refrigeration systems.
