We had the privilege of having former cabinet minister George Yeo at our dialogue session on Monday evening at OCBC Campus with senior leaders in the Bank. Mr Yeo, senior advisor of Kerry Logistics Network, shared his insights gleaned from more than 20 years in politics on issues such as the US-China trade war, the role and importance of Asean, as well as rising nationalism and geopolitical tensions across the world. Mr Yeo and our Group CEO Samuel Tsien shared with more than 100 senior leaders in the organisation about their thoughts on how to lead in times of uncertainty and crisis, as well as how to lead with far-sightedness, while maintaining a high level of morality and integrity. The session was a highlight of OCBC Bank’s inaugural senior leadership programme, BOLD, that helps our leaders glean insights and perspectives into global issues affecting corporations and even countries.
It’s always a fun time at Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s conference (SCCCI) ! This year’s event was extra special as we hosted Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chun Sing and SCCCI President Roland Ng at our booth, introducing our digital offerings including the Digital Business Dashboard and Start Digital Pack. Digitalisation must be a top priority for all companies and it is something that we are constantly working on together with our business banking customers. Read on to find out more about what our head of emerging business and commercial bank cash Christie Chu thinks about this digitalisation movement. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vMlam #OCBCxSMEs
Organisations everywhere are looking for ways to digitalise, and public sector organisations are no exception. In fact, many of these organisations are at the forefront of digitalisation. On Monday, about 100 participants from these public sector organisations kicked off their week with us at OCBC Public Sector Day. One of the highlights was a panel session where CPF Board and Republic Polytechnic shared insights from their digital transformation journey, including their experiences with implementing and using PayNow. There were many practical takeaways from the session and we hope to continue working with these organisations to find ways to make their payments and collections even more simple, convenient and cost efficient.

There are certain things that make a person light up. In the case of Wesley Soo, 26, all you’d need to do is put a guitar into his hands. The pop music fan, who is in training to be an assistant relationship manager in OCBC Bank’s Wholesale Corporate Marketing Department, taught himself how to play the instrument when he was 18 years old. How did he do it? “I used YouTube tutorial videos and websites like Ultimate Guitar,” he says, adding that Train’s catchy tune Hey, Soul Sister was the first song he taught himself. His self-starting attitude caught the eye of recruiters and led to Wesley being part of OCBC Bank’s Graduate Talent Programme. #PeopleOfOCBC

Damien Chia (in black), director of Life Architech which is best known for its one-stop, healthy living platform Hao Yi Kang, was one of approximately 200 SMEs in attendance at the OCBC SME Series. Held at OCBC Campus, the two-day event aimed to equip SMEs with the knowledge to digitalise their businesses, introducing them to a wide range of solutions including accounting and payments apps, as well as solutions for specific sectors like education and F&B. It is part of the bank’s ongoing efforts to help SMEs go digital. #OCBCxSMEs
Typically a graph with three peaks that form the shape of a head and two shoulders, this pattern is usually a sign of a trend reversal from bullish to bearish state in the market.
Cassie Ong, a bubbly extrovert who works in OCBC’s Business Banking Commercial Service Centre, is living the foodie dream. She has the option of visiting restaurants four to seven times a week to taste new creations and photograph them. Her mission: To spread the joy on her social media channels. So, if you’re ever stuck for places to eat, this is the girl to ask. To her, the most under-rated restaurant near the OCBC office in Raffles Place is Un-Yang-Kor-Dai. Cassie says that the lunch sets are affordable, and the northern Thai dishes it serves are rockin’ hot – far beyond the norm. If she could only eat one thing for the rest of her life, though, it’d be bak chor mee. “Local is best,” she says (her favourite place to go for the dish is Serangoon Garden Market). #PeopleOfOCBC
