      Pros

Overly Political and too subjective by uniformed middle managers

      Digital marketing strategist
      Former employee
      Wilmington, DE
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Provides a stable work environment. Once you understand the infrastructure and internal processes, you can find ways to get things done and build valuable experience navigating complex organizations.

      Cons

The culture is resistant to innovation—new ideas often face unnecessary escalation and political maneuvering to gain traction. Leadership relies heavily on superficial “sizzle” projects designed to impress rather than deliver sustainable, customer-focused impact. Feedback is minimal and not constructive, while employees can be overly sensitive and lack assertive business acumen. Recruiting and promotion practices are poor, with hiring decisions based on subjective preferences of underinformed managers rather than sound HR processes. This results in a homogenous workforce and individuals elevated into leadership roles without the right qualifications or business understanding. A common practice is promoting underperformers simply to move them out of one department, rather than addressing performance issues directly. Executive management is weak, overly arrogant, and focused on personal advancement. Many senior leaders—often highly educated but under-experienced—lack practical knowledge of the business lines they oversee. As a subject matter expert, you can end up spending years training a revolving door of inexperienced directors and presidents without recognition or advancement, unless you engage in office politics. Overall, the culture undervalues diverse perspectives and true innovation. In a decade, I experienced only one manager who genuinely respected experience, welcomed diverse thought, and encouraged thoughtful, constructive ideas.
