I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at American Express in Apr 2021
Interview
The interview process itself was perfectly enjoyable. I got short-listed and only had two interviews, both one-on-ones with two separate hiring managers on the same day. I had one technical interview and one behavioral. They asked about ways that American Express makes money, how my experience would fit into the team I'm joining, and technical questions related to my experience. I also received a brain teaser question. While the interviews themselves were fine, it's the onboarding process that completely killed all my excitement to work at the company. First, it took over a month for me to receive my written offer after accepting the verbal. Communication was poor during this waiting period, and that hinted at the issues to come with their HR department. Next, their HR department broke NYC labor law on during the background check/on boarding process by including a marijuana/thc screen as mandatory. This has been banned by law for over a year in NYC, and it introduced even more delays and issues that were completely unnecessary and due to their HR team not doing their job properly. Having a prospective employee go a month and a half after accepting verbal offer without having a final offer letter and start date is unacceptable and by far the worst experience onboarding process I've had to date.
