I first had a phone screen with the recruiter which went well. Then I had a phone interview with the hiring manager and wow. When he called, I could tell from the background that he was driving. I politely asked him if this was a good time to talk as it seemed like he was driving, but he brushed off the question. The questions were mostly regarding my background, but again I could tell that he was distracted as he asked questions that I had previously answered. Having been a hiring manager myself, this is extremely unprofessional and rude. At the end, I had the opportunity to ask some questions and here is a snippet of the dialogue:
Him: You would be working with hospitals and looking into integrating the product.
Me: So this position sounds similar to a Solution Architect and would require travel.
Him: Yes
Me: Hmm... ok. The job description didn't mention any travel. How much travel would be required?
Him: A regular amount.
Me: What's a regular amount?
Him: A regular amount for the job.
Me: I'm sorry I don't know what a regular amount for this job would be. Could you give me a percentage?
He seemed to have a good idea of what he wanted, but really had a hard time communicating it or maybe he was distracted by his drive. Regardless, after the interview, I responded to the recruiter by email that this was not a good fit and she didn't respond to the email. Bad situation avoided.
