      Customer Support Specialist Interview

      27 Jul 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot in Jul 2022

      Interview

Initially, the interview process was very positive. The recruiter was great, and very friendly and responded to emails and queries extremely quickly. The recruiter was impressed with my skills initially, and moved me forward on the call to the next stage which was great. Like other candidates mentioned, you have to create a landing page which essentially shows that you can 1) take basic instruction but 2) know the product, and learn quickly. The second round of interviews is a meeting with the hiring manager (who was shadowed by another manager), which is very informal and most of the interview is conducted via a role play using the landing page you created, with HubSpots integrated Live Chat feature. The role play focusses on a customer who is having trouble with their Hubspot account. It's important to note, like others have said - don't break character. They're not looking for the actual answers, just that you know how to troubleshoot and find the answer. Emphasise that you will move to another communication method (e.g. email) if you can't find the answer. The hiring manager was very friendly, and impressed with my skills and communication style - and progressed me further while on the Zoom call. Great, almost have it! Then, we get to the group interviews. I feel these are very long and drawn out, and could really be made a little shorter. 3 x 30 min interviews with different managers, with a 30 min break in between. First two managers I spoke with were so great, warm and friendly and really engaged with the interview. They were interested in not only skills, and the interview - but learning about my background and home life, it made it really informal. The final manager I spoke to though, and I feel this manager influenced the decision - was completely disinterested and had absolutely no drive in the interview. They got straight to competency style questions (STAR), with a very brief introduction and once the interview was finished, they ended the call quite abruptly. Completely different to the other managers I've met. Never heard back after this, and had to follow up with the recruiter who informed me that they would not be moving forward with my application. She offered to provide feedback, but never replied when I asked for this feedback.
