      Consultant Software Engineer Interview

      5 Jun 2018
      Anonymous employee
      Austin, TX
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Slalom (Austin, TX) in May 2018

      Interview

I was contacted by a Slalom recruiter on LinkedIn and went back and forth over LinkedIn and the phone for a few weeks before a convenient time to meet opened up. After that, I had several conversations with various people from Slalom, including many face to face conversations over coffee or at happy hour, and one formal/technical video chat interview. I also did a short HackerRank test. Overall the experience was highly conversational and was more about cultural fit with the company than anything else. One of the most positive interview experiences I've had.

      Consultant Software Engineer Interview

      14 Dec 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Slalom

      Interview

The interview process was comprised of only three meetings total, about an hour long each - initial one with recruiter, a technical one with my potential manager, and one with the head of technology department. The three people I interviewed with were all amazing, and that factor was what sold me on Slalom. My least favorite part about the interview was the technical portion, since it was all "quiz like" questions and there was no real chance to demonstrate my problem solving skills. I was also slightly surprised about the easiness and quickness of the interview process in general.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Mostly technical and behavioral interview questions. Technical questions concerned mostly frontend web development topics such as the relationship between the view and store in React, Rail's action dispatch, Redux/Flux, the virtual DOM and bugs that can happen as the result of it.

      Software Developer Consultant Interview

      11 Jun 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Denver, CO
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Slalom (Denver, CO)

      Interview

The interview process took a long time and as other reviewers have mentioned it was a bit erratic. There were long gaps with no communication followed by last-minute interview requests. Overall the interviews were less daunting than those for other tech companies. Most were 1:1 conversations, either over coffee or in an office. Over the course of all interviews, the questions broke down to being 25% personal (career goals, learning habits, etc.), 25% technical (experience, coding knowledge, architecture), and 50% business strategy and financial initiatives. After meeting with several people in different roles at the company, I still don't have a clear picture of what this company is looking for or how they operate. There was information provided by the recruiter and the website that was directly contradicted in later interviews. If I'd known the full expectations of the role early on, I doubt I would have continued interviewing as long as I did.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

We're looking for the kind of developers who work a 45 hr. work week and then go home and can't wait to spend hours coding in their free time. What coding projects do you work on in your free time?
