The interview was relaxed and they were certainly there to help. They made it clear they would help you through the whole process of becoming a teacher with your own mentor guiding you.
I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Teach for America in Sept 2009
Interview
This interview is stressful to say the least. I applied online and got to surpass the phone interview. The final interview is very intense and requires a lot of preparation. For the 5 minute lesson plan, please make sure that you choose a subject you are knowledgable about and can express the ideas clearly. Remember to have an introduction (30 sec), core of information (2 min), wrap up (30 sec), and then some type of assessment at the end (1-2 min)whether through a worksheet, quiz, or what have you. But don't stress too much about the lesson because they know majority of applicants aren't teachers...yet. READ READ READ then STUDY STUDY STUDY the articles. You want to be sure that you voice a stance in the dicussion so make sure you know what you're talking about. Don't be too over zealous. Give others time to talk, disagree or agree with you. The test is a bummer. There isn't really a way to prepare for this other than come to the interview ready to think critically. Take your time, but know there is a time limit! The 1:1 is not that bad. It consists of the usual interview-y questions so have standard answers ready. Be sure to tie their goals into your answers, I am convinced this is a plus.
easy and fun, lots of help through the process. Very helpful and kind, lots of responsiveness. everyone has a clear vision of the mission, and wants to achieve it. Loved it.
