First, a phone conversation with a postdoctoral fellow at the institute, to get a sense of what my experience and interests are. I was asked to come in to the institute having written a few algorithms in C to do certain tasks. I spend a day and a half working on a pcrograming problem they gave me, after which I was quizzed at a blackboard on various problems related to statistics, linear algebra, and programming. I prepared a presentation on my recent research, too, but never had a chance to give it.
