      Country Manager Interview

      12 Nov 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Uber in Jan 2015

      Interview

Based on my experience, I think Uber was NOT looking for someone with solid managerial experience, but rather a number cruncher who can do analytical works and calculations. They were less interested in my experience, managerial and leadership skills and ability to manage P&L. I aced the one on one interview, and then was asked to do an online test. When I told them I was traveling overseas with huge time difference they didn't seem to be happy and forced me to complete an online test with unreasonable deadline. The test is 2-hour long and have questions that can be answered using a data file they provided. All of the above happened within days. Then they disappeared for a many weeks, not returning calls or emails. When I almost forgot about it, an email came and asked me to do a follow up interview. At that time I was already turned off by the entire experience and I declined to proceed further. They later on sent me an email saying I did not fit the role, which I found quite funny, but it showed the mess with the HR/Recruiting dept. The online test was designed to test your analytical skill through spreadsheet manipulation. Honestly, at this stage in my career, I don't find myself needing to do it. If I need some number crunching done, I would hire a quant jock and ask him to do it. It's almost insulting. The HR person was unhelpful, arrogant and snotty. Initially I had some issues with the .csv file they sent. His reply to my email was equivalent to 'go figure it out yourself, because I don't care'.
