      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      22 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Unity in Apr 2019

      Interview

I applied for a senior software engineer position in a specialized field on the website (something like AI for example). The position is a strong match with my experience. Then 2 months after (it was probably a first red flag) I received a semi-automatic email from the recruiter asking for availability for a phone screen. I replied because the position was very interesting for me, then we spoke on the phone briefly, by the way she called one hour and a half before the expected time. Probably a mistake due to west coast/east cost in NA. The recruiter was nice on the phone, she explained the role and told me I will do an interview with a member of the team I applied for. Shortly after the call I received a calendar link for setting up the interview. In the meantime I received an offer (after all I was interviewing since several weeks at other compagnies). I sent a mail to the recruiter with my availability and I informed her I received an offer and my time is constraint by a pending offer, she didn't reply. But the interview was set up by a recruiter coordinator with the lead of the team I applied for. We spoke for almost one hour on a video call. My interviewer was nice and friendly, it was more a discussion without any coding question. He started the interview by saying he liked my resume (it seems honest) and we discussed the role. He asked some questions on the subject, nothing difficult, it was more a conversation. He explained the challenges of the job and we spoke on that, he also described the team working on that at Unity. At the end of the interview he told me again he liked my resume since I have a PhD and research experience in the field and he asked if I have other offer. I told him I do and the sooner the better for setting up further interviews if they wanted to move forward with me. He acknowledged this and once again I believe it was honest. Then nothing... 4 days later I emailed the recruiter and I asked for feedback on my interview (I had pending offers with not much time left). She didn't reply to my mail, so I figured I was ghosted, it was especially disappointing because I believe the first interview went well. A few days after I saw a new post from my recruiter on a social network with a link to the position I applied for. Then I was 100% sure I was rejected and ghosted. Obviously I misread how my interview went, but still I had better hopes with Unity, with at least an automatic rejection email. This is surprising especially by reading other experiences with Unity on this site. Overall the process took almost 3 months and ended up by being ghosted.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Mountain View, CA) in Mar 2026

      Interview

Overall, I had a very positive experience. The process was a bit long (a little over a month), but it also included the Easter holiday period in Europe/Montreal. The process was: HR phone screen, hiring manager interview, take-home assignment, technical round, and three virtual onsite rounds (Product, Behavioral, and ML knowledge), followed by the final decision. There was only one coding assessment, in take-home format. The algorithm/design pattern/GitHub parts were quite basic. There was also some web development content (CSS/HTML layout), which was more challenging for me since that is not my primary area. I then had a technical round that focused mostly on past experience rather than the take-home assignment itself. In the virtual onsite rounds, the last ML round covered many ML topics. I prepared a lot and was able to answer many of them, though not all. The interviewer was very helpful and willing to share knowledge, which I appreciated.

      Interview

The interview process began with a phone call with a recruiter, followed by a Zoom technical interview with the team leader, who asked about my experience. After that, I had two system design interviews, and finally an HR and senior manager interview.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Unity (Copenhagen, Capital Region) in Jul 2025

      Interview

I started with an initial conversation with Recruiter team, where the process was clearly explained to me. After that, I quickly moved to a high-level discussion with the hiring managers about the team’s architecture and specific needs. I was then guided into several technical interview rounds — about four sessions, each lasting around 45 minutes. These included both team members and experienced professionals from outside the team, with diverse backgrounds. Almost every stage included a coding assignment component, as well as high-level discussions and deep dives into relevant parts of my background. The entire process took around four weeks in total: about two weeks for the interview stages to be scheduled and completed, and another two weeks before I received the official result. Throughout the process, interviewers were intelligent, collaborative, and supportive. I enjoyed the experience and gained a clear understanding of what the role involves. The challenges were fair and engaging, without feeling overwhelming. I was very happy with the outcome.
