My experience with the interview process at Unity left me feeling deeply disappointed. It was a five-step process, beginning with an initial call from the recruiter, followed by discussions with the hiring manager, a technical exercise, a presentation, and finally, a technical interview with the team.
My disappointment stems from the fact that I invested a significant amount of effort and preparation from the very beginning, only to be eliminated at the final stage. During the technical interview, I was utilizing the Terraform documentation as a reference, which had been provided by the interviewer themselves during the interview. To my surprise, it seemed as though they expected candidates to have memorized the entire Terraform provider documentation, which, in reality, is an unreasonable expectation.
Additionally, there appeared to be a lack of clarity in the expectations set by both the hiring manager and the recruiter. The job title indicated "Sr. Cloud Network Engineer," while it appeared that they were seeking someone at a Lead/Principal level. This ambiguity made it challenging to align my qualifications with their needs.
Moreover, the interview experience with the team was perplexing. The interviewers asked questions that were unclear or seemed irrelevant, even after I attempted to seek clarification. This added to the overall frustration and confusion I experienced during the process.
In conclusion, I believe there were discrepancies in the job description, expectations, and the interview process itself at Unity. While I value the opportunity to interview with unity , I hope that future candidates will encounter a more transparent and fair evaluation process that better aligns with the requirements of the role.
