      Compliance Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Visa Inc. (Foster City, CA) in Jul 2019

      Interview

Pleasant conversation with recruiter who set up a call with the hiring manager. The hiring manager and I discussed my background. I had relevant experience to the role, especially when looking at the job description in its entirety, but I was weak in some of the requirements. I discussed this openly with the hiring manager and they seemed unfazed by this. The recruiter reached back out, said the hiring manager had positive feedback, and I was asked to do 4 Skype video interviews with the team. When I interviewed it was apparent within 10 minutes of the first interview that they really wanted an experienced specialist whose role was 80% doing 1 or 2 things on the job description that I was the weakest in. I went through 3 hours of each interviewer going through my resume, highlighting this gap, and asking me if I was aware of what the job was when I applied and if I had talked to the hiring manager. Everyone was very polite, but it extremely awkward and after 3 hours of that, I felt like the whole process had been a waste of all of our times. The hiring manager was the last person I spoke to and I brought it up. The hiring manager brushed that off politely I think to help me save face. I received a rejection very quickly from the recruiter the next business day stating that I didn't get the role because I lacked experience in precisely the thing that I was the weakest in. I appreciated the fast responses, politeness, and the quick closure, so I’ll rate it positively, but I feel with a bit more candor and honesty, we would've realized that the interview shouldn’t have proceeded beyond the initial phone call.
