I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Zalando in Apr 2021
Interview
Call with recruiter (internal), then automated online coding questions. Not too easy, not too hard, but nice setup.
Then had a one-on-one interview with techincal questions, again not too hard, with some more coding and non coding questions.
Then a third round of 4 interviews in one day. Another mix of coding and non coding (yes they've more coding rounds than Amazon or Google...). Again not too, hard. One interviewer asked several questions which seemed a bit like "tech trivia" — I couldn't really imagine why it would be important for a candidate to know this off the top of their head, and I've never really heard these kinds of questions be asked elsewhere.
Coding setup throughout was the highlight — I will never accept there's any useful insight gained into making candidates write code on whiteboards or using a generic shared text editor without even basic syntax highlighting. You could even run your solutions in the interview so that gets a thumbs up.
Unfortunately the positive stops abruptly there. Forget feedback on my performance. I never even got a yes/no email, boilerplate or otherwise, after 6+ hours of interviews.
I was iffy on my interest anyway, so I had no real need to chase them to formally decline. But the idea that any professional company would just ghost final-stage interview candidates, or need to be pursued just to get an answer at all.
Got a follow up email a week after asking for my impressions of the interview. This seems highly ironic, since the most fundamental thing to improve would be giving candidates ANY answer at all — it never even occurred to me at one week, that I would never hear anything from them again.
