Pros

- Remote / WFH company for corporate employees - Talent Acquisition team is extremely nice and easy to work with

Cons

There are a few characteristics I’ve found to be common in a lot of underperforming and toxic staffing agencies; they’re cheap, they have passive-aggressive leadership, and a staff that won’t speak up against any of it. Unfortunately, 1st Choice is no different. The “CEO”, and I use that term loosely, is incompetent and insecure, a terrible combination of characteristics for an “executive-level leader”. The role she plays in the organization is that of a seagull at the beach; she’ll be loud and wrong, annoying, rude, tell you everything about what you’re doing wrong with your job, and will either a) offer absolutely no solution or b) offer a terrible solution in a very passive-aggressive and disrespectful manner. She’s the type of woman who clearly can’t get out of her own way, and unfortunately, is more than likely too old to change. Her ego needs to be stroked in a very special way, so she calls daily meetings that last entirely too long and doesn’t add anything helpful to anyone but herself. Her role in the meetings is to stop doing whatever low-effort “work” she was doing during the day, join the call, and be clueless about the happenings in the organization or the jobs she hired people to do. She’ll make you explain simple concepts to her, she’ll go off-topic and talk about luxury purchases and other pointless things, and she has a flair for the dramatics, so expect long monologues. She’s the type of “leader” who thinks that being rude and belittling your employees in front of the entire staff will make the team respect her. These meetings will end up lasting on average at least 2.5 hours, twice a day. Due to these meetings, you won’t have much time to meet the uninformed and unrealistic expectations she sets, especially given that she’s cheap and won’t pay for the proper TA tools you need to do the job quickly. If everything else wasn’t bad enough, she isn’t that bright, so she’s extremely insecure about being wrong about anything. If you just nod your head in agreement, stroke her ego, laugh at her jokes, ignore the disrespect (that WILL happen towards you) and listen to her ramble off-topic in mandatory meetings, you’ll be successful here. Listen to the reviews you can tell are real, and make a smart decision regarding your next place of employment. You’re worth more than 1st Choice.
