Amazing company culture

Cons

- they are not good on restructuring the company departments and people: lack of communication, lack of creating opportunities for people who are there since long time.

Pros

Fun workplace. Travel to different office locations. Fun colleagues. Solid PTO. Office parties, and lots of food and booze!

Cons

Pay! Seriously way underpaid. Also, no bonuses, or equity. Didn’t check your email over the weekend to respond to a client? Slap on the wrist. (Want me to check my emails on a weekend? Pay me more.) No possibility to move up in most roles, unless you’re in engineering or product development. This place is a revolving door. People quit or get fired all the time. I’ve stopped learning new employee’s names. Management here is as diverse as my taste in wines. White and cold.

Pros

On the positive side, the company's purpose is meaningful, it provides daycare and chefs in its Berlin location, and the colleagues are great to work with. Furthermore, it is large enough to deal with problems usually encountered by big companies.

Cons

However, it's not all rosy. There are several issues that need attention. The leadership has been criticized for being naive. Nepotism is a problem, with concerns about favoritism and unfair treatment. There are also complaints about shadow hierarchies and title inflation, both of which can lead to confusion and inefficiencies. Worryingly, despite being a tech company, there appears to be an inadequate focus on the tech function. This is a significant issue that needs addressing if the company wants to remain competitive in the future.

Dear AMBOSSian, Thank you for this very honest and nuanced feedback, we appreciate it. We'd like to comment on some of the things you mentioned because partly – and very unfortunately – you are spot on. It's true that we do have people in the wrong positions and then have almost a "shadow hierarchy" behind it and other people are calling the shots. We are constantly working on promoting the right people and building a stable organisation. But we all carry organisational debt and as much as we want this to be gone in a second, sometimes these things are not easy to change fast. Regarding nepotism, we would, however, disagree: What is true is that we love when people come by referral! We have a strong culture, and we have amazing talent in our company, so if a high performer vouches for someone else they bring in, then the probability that they are a rockstar as well is higher. However, we strongly contradict the word "nepotism" in the narrower sense. If people don't perform, they are not preferred over other other people only because it's friends and family. When it comes to the focus on tech, It's also true! But hey, help us change it! Work with us and make us a "tech company" to use your words! And for everyone else who reads this: COME AND WORK WITH US! We have a fantastic mission and are looking for talented tech people who help us bring patient care to the next level. AMBOSS People Team

great colleagues, kind and warm atmosphere, wonderful product and mission, good work-life balance

Cons

The last 1-2 years there's been an alarmingly high turnover rate, and the root cause is in my experience not really being addressed. I'd say this turnover rate is partly due to your typical growth pains... employees have too many topics to drive forward at once, there are too many meetings, we're lacking strong leadership in prod/engineering, and imo there's ineffective decision making. Leadership (co-founders and c-level) often involve themselves with teams, which is not where their focus should be. Lastly, there are unclear priorities... there are no company-level OKRs so different goals are competing against each other which makes things chaotic/political

For example, we are working specifically within product and engineering on clarifying decision making process, which should also help with priority setting within teams. Best Employer I've had so far

Pros

- flexible and hybrid work possible - work-life-balance, there are of course more stressful times every now and then, but it always balances out in other time. - company culture: colleagues are so warm, kind, true team-players and welcoming. I still remember the all hands meeting we had on my first day and how much team members celebrated the successes of other teams. - the company offers really great benefits, one of my favourites is the daily breakfast and lunches prepared by our amazing chefs. - in my team we value open and honest feedback and communication, I always know where I'm at performance wise and what's going on in the company. - flat hierarchies: management and leadership are super approachable and open. - we are not doing processes or anything like that just for the sake of having a process in place, which I really like. It helps us to adapt to needs quickly.

Cons

There is probably something, but nothing comes to my mind currently.
