Pros

The entrepreneurial spirit of the owners is admirable. That's where the pro's stop. Good intentions, horrible execution! Oh, and the Christmas party is fun. Just a time for them to show off their money to their friends. Don't kid yourself and think it's for you as an employee!!

Cons

The owners literally told me everyone was expendable. Hence, why the turnover is alarmingly high. And the problem with such high turnover is the need for the constant training of new employees. So you would think the training would be amazing. Nope. Far from it. This is either a make or break it environment and if you annoy the owners in anyway shape or form, you're out. Can't make it the first day in training? You're out. And by make it, I mean however they feel that day. Their judgement isn't based on any metrics, just pure subjective judgement. This is all regardless of if you quit a previous job. I suggest anyone leaving a current role for this one leaves it on good terms. If you don't "make it" (which is loosely defined), you're out and that's that. If you're in sales make sure you stay on their good side (which you have no control of) because they will feed the good leads to their friends. Most of what what mentioned above applies to sales, but their customer service department isn't much better. Get ready to use horrible client management systems and good luck ever getting any office supplies to do your job. The lawyers at this company are amazing! They work incredibly long hours for horrible pay. Can you imagine dealing with the IRS and mad customers all day long for below entry level pay after taking out all of those student loans to become a lawyer!?! It's insulting and they deserve better! Lastly, their HR department is non existent. A non- HR professional is the head of the department and, well, good luck. All around a toxic environment. Proceed with extreme caution!!!!

Typically at Community Tax, we like to utilize these reviews as constructive criticism so that we can positively improve the work environment. However, given the completely frivolous nature of this review, we feel compelled to respond to this. This is a post from an anonymous individual who did not even specify what position they worked in. First – at Community Tax, ownership and management recognize, that great companies are built by great people. Every member of management came in entry level, work hard, excelled, and were promoted into their current positions. With respect to the attack on sales, Community Tax invests heavily in marketing in order to create an opportunity for each and every rep. Unfortunately, like any position in sales, it is not always a fit for everyone. Sales has clearly defined metrics and targets to hit, like any sales floor. Leads are distributed evenly to everyone, and a large percentage of our sales floor are six figure earners. Anyone applying for sales is welcome to come shadow a salesperson and see what a day is like on the CTax sales floor. Community Tax offers its attorneys a competitive entry level tax attorney salary, and the ability to earn substantial bonuses. We enroll hundreds of clients a month, and it is a fast paced, high volume environment. Lastly, no one is forced to write reviews, and the failed businesses referred to include Community Tax, which in six years has become one of the largest providers of Tax Resolution services in the country and employs well over 100 people, and Consumer Law Group which is one of Illinois’ fastest growing consumer law firms. We welcome any candidate to come on in for an interview, and see for yourself what Community Tax is like, rather than relying on a fabricated post.

Pros

decent product offer to their clients

Cons

In reading the most recent (April) reviews, it appears that management had their employees write up "glowing reviews." Are things that bad that they needed 16 "reviews" to bolster their ratings? Of course someone from "management" may pop up and say that employees are free to write up reviews, whether good or bad and these employees feel good about working for Community Tax. Their benefits are very costly and there is no 401k. Turnover is ridiculously high. Did not study for your sales job before you start? Don’t be surprised if you get let go by 10am. The attorneys that work there put in 60+ hours a week for inadequate pay. They are very bright and wasting their talent. The office is one large room and can be rather loud. There is so much potential here, if the right management was in place. Until then, expect high turnover, less than average pay, and a myth of making 6 figures (unless you are buddies with management). Good luck to those who choose to work there.

Community Tax Response

Written by one of the owners and managing partner of Community Tax, LLC *********** It is becoming apparent that someone with a vendetta against management and ownership is writing negative posts on Glassdoor. Sincerely, there are quite a few insults that are inaccurate, and we would like to address them. First, yes, 16 members of the Community Tax team willingly posted reviews on Glassdoor. We are not sure why this is a criticism. We see it as an indication that many members of the team were willing to recommend and even defend the company they are proud to be a part of. Secondarily, there is no 401k at the moment, however, Community Tax is 6 years old, and has made massive investments in infrastructure, a brand new state of the art office, and marketing efforts in order to create stability, and longevity for every member of the team, in addition to an endless flow of leads driven straight to a salesperson’s phones enabling them to maximize their opportunity provided they are a talented hard working sales person. Attorneys do not work 60+ hours per week, and a significant percentage of the sales floor are six figure income earners. Anyone coming in for an interview is welcome to sit down with these members and meet them, to hear this first hand. Furthermore, anyone who interviews for a sales position is invited to shadow a senior sales rep, and can see the opportunity for themselves. As far as the personal attacks on management, as an owner, I am always eager to hear constructive input from my team members, which is why I, and every single owner of the company have an open door policy. However, I don’t really value input from an alleged “former employee” fabricating stories and hiding behind an anonymous post on Glassdoor. Every company has room for improvement. However, I am proud of every single person’s efforts at CTax, which has resulted in record production, double digit month over month revenue growth, and a 25% increase in staff in the past year alone. There is a reason that we, the same management team you attack, have built the largest tax relief company in the country in just six short years. This was no accident, and nothing was given to us. Through hard work, dedication, and a strong commitment to both our team and customers, Community Tax has emerged as an industry leader. Despite this growth, we still are just getting started. My door is always open for anyone who wants to come discuss the vision of Community Tax, and where we WILL take the company in the coming years.

Pros

There was a very high turnover rate so you got to meet a lot of new people! Everyone who worked there was great except for the management team. They have an awesome Holiday Party in December where the owners pat themselves on the back and order belly dancers to entertain the employees instead of providing a bonus of any sort!

Cons

Pay is garbage. Promised pay bumps were delayed for months. Performance reviews were a joke. Employees were treated as disposable assets. Benefits were terrible.

Although we believe that every organization can learn from candid reviews that contain both positive information and constructive criticism, the anonymity of reviews tends to be an opportunity for people to periodically post something outlandish, untrue or simply a rant that serves no constructive purpose. Those are just the perils of being an organization willing to put ourselves out there on Glass Door. The agenda of the author is quite obvious and it appears that the author either never worked at Community Tax, or may be a former employee who may have exhibited the level of constructive thought and behavior represented in this posting, and who likely disagreed with reviews or decisions which effected their compensation and resulted in them being a former employee. Community Tax is a fast paced, team oriented, performance driven environment with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits including medical/health, dental, vision, life, Short and long term disability, commuter benefits and more. Regardless of the behavior, agenda or approach the author exhibits in the post, in our efforts to be a constantly growing, always improving organization with engaged employees, we can learn from every post we see on Glass Door, be it positive, negative or neutral. We thank the author for their input and we will continue to look for ways to ensure our employees are engaged and feel valued.
