It's a big, established pharmaceuticals company that is mostly concerned with preserving its market share / cash flow, and that is how the business approaches just about everything. The business tends to sequester and under utilize talent and IP, so innovation and career growth is slow compared to other companies in the industry.
There's also a culture of micromanagement, where leaders tend to not trust their teams and struggle to delegate anything of importance. From what I've seen, this is fairly consistent across departments and up/down the management chain.
