Pros

There are no pros to this job.

Cons

During my time at Benefit, I had the worst 6 months of my life. I was employed on the Brow Bar and ended up with a months sick note off my doctor I was that poorly from stress and anxiety. The sales targets were ridiculously high resulting in me being back to back with appointments, being rushed and making customers late, not having any time for a break and the job becoming painfully repetitive. Although I like my makeup a little more natural, I was forced to wear heavy makeup and told I was not nice enough without it and the way I looked was downgrading the counter. My manager told me I didn't belong on a beauty counter as I didn't have the right look and was the laughing stock of the other counters. I don't have much confidence anyway and get insecure about my looks, so my confidence hit rock bottom. I told the Debenhams managers about this and they pretended nothing happened. Traffic stopping was a huge part of this job role which become very draining and pressured. The atmosphere was the worst I'd ever experienced and the other girls were constantly crying. We had constant meetings with our counter manager about what we needed to do to improve our sales and how to drive productivity. I understand this is the nature of retail, but everything was so negative. Nothing nice was ever said to us or what great things we had done, it was completely unnoticed when we had worked hard. We just got pushed and pushed to the point 8 girls left in the space of 5 months. I have never felt as bad about myself or as self conscious. The company is not for making women feel good about themselves, it's simply greedy and run by bullies. I would not recommend this brand to anyone and I have never felt as relieved to leave this company. It's painfully run by hard faced managers who do not support or look after their staff. Even when I come back after having 4 weeks off, no one asked if I was OK or if they could help with anything, I had a back to work meeting and was told my targets had gone up and was shown a new online booking system that enabled to fit more customers in. I was in absolute disbelief and instantly handed my notice in. Please reconsider if you are looking to apply with benefit, you are worked to the bone and very easily replaced.

Pros

None really unless you like gratis for a mid tier makeup brand.

Cons

Abusive management and exploitative business practices. And a niche service for brows won’t really help with growing into the esthetics/spa world. They will work you to the bone and have high retail expectations, they expect individuals to sell thousands of dollars worth of product weekly but give minimal bonus and PTO. This business markets themselves as caring and kind but hires male leads that harass female employees. Multiple racial injustices have happened in my time working here too.
