Pros

- Job progression is clearly marked and pay in the engineering sector of the company is decent.

Cons

- A toxic engineering culture, focused on attempting to be "better" than your peers, rather than one that learns together. It feels like walking into a yesteryear of engineering. Truly the type of environment that should be avoided. I cannot state that enough - if you care about the environment you're working in in anyway then do not become a software engineer at Booking.com. - An unfriendly workplace environment in general. Not unusual to arrive in the morning to snarky Slack comments/emails. The type of place where you dread Mondays rolling over due to what might be in your inbox. Incredibly confidence draining. - Customer service team were let go in a way that meant they didn't get severance pay, via a Zoom call. On the same day, the engineering teams had one-to-one's with their managers letting them know about pay rises. This, whilst also being incredibly sad for those impacted, creates a paltry working environment.
