Pros

A lot of great, self-motivated, talented people that are fantastic to work with and people you can learn from . Unfortunately they are the minority at a firm that is struggling to recruit and retain top talent.

Cons

Capco has lost its way, forgetting that a culture that cultivates talent is a culture that thrives in the consulting industry. Sounds obvious but people and solutions are your only assets. Without them it will be very difficult to sell and deliver work. Capco does not treat their talent with the respect and dignity required to retain top talent. They have not process in place to nurture and develop talent. The performance management process is broken and completely arbitrary. Worst of all in the Capco culture of placing no value on the individual, the leadership team continues to arbitrarily fire people with no clear process, warning or visibility into why that occurred. All these talent management issues combined lead to deep anxiety about your longevity at the firm. Top talent doesn't stay at a firm that makes them anxious about their job and keeps them guessing about their future.

Capco Response

We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed working with your Capco colleagues, and found them to be talented people from whom you could learn. As a consulting firm, Capco is a people business and we appreciate the importance of recognizing, developing, and nurturing talent. Capco is focused on learning and development, with milestone programs for each level in the organization and a leadership development program, as well as numerous offerings focused on specific skill development. We recognize those making strong contributions with Talent Awards and Spot Awards, along with competitive compensation and advancement opportunities. Regarding your point on performance management, the quality assurance measures we have in place, such as independent reviews of promotion cases, ensure that outcomes are fair and that the peer calibration process is robust. Feedback plays a key role in performance improvement. We emphasize the importance of scheduling regular review sessions with your Project Manager and Coach. These sessions provide an opportunity for you to assess key strengths and any developmental areas, and to plan for the future. Finally, as with any progressive firm, Capco regularly evaluates it’s organizational structure and ability to meet the demands of a changing market. Occasionally this leads to changes within the business, however any changes are always made in close consultation with those impacted.

Pros

Varied client work — Different clients and project types, which keeps things interesting. Real project mobility — You can move between projects when you advocate for yourself (within reason). Approachable leadership — Senior leaders are open to conversations if you reach out. Good development resources — Plenty of training and growth opportunities if you take advantage of them. Strong teams — Colleagues are smart, capable, and great to work with. Entrepreneurial environment — New ideas are encouraged, and there’s room to take initiative.

Cons

Long hours vary by project — Like most any professional job, some engagements require extended hours for prolonged periods, but work–life balance really depends on the client and team. Additional internal responsibilities — Depending on level, there can be a significant amount of firm‑support work outside of client delivery. Domain alignment not guaranteed — You may not always be staffed on projects that match your domain expertise. Coaching alignment constraints — Coaching relationships are tied to domain, which limits flexibility in choosing formal mentors. Long engagements (sometimes) — Some projects run for long durations or through multiple extensions. It can provides stability but may reduce variety in client and project experience depending on what you’re looking for.
