Pros

Large stable company with hefty compensation packages. The idea of working on very large scale systems supporting mission critical financial services can be a nice challenge.

Cons

Executive team had little care of real issues and focused strictly on cost per head count regardless of any other factor. The technical teams in Dallas and St Louis had resigned to a life of not caring anymore. The company lacked any kind of energy, with most employees readily telling you they are there to collect a check. We saw critical system fixes delayed 9 months because no one wanted to actually do the deployment.

Pros

Hybrid schedule, supportive managers, opportunities

Cons

Once you’re in, comp basically plateaus. Layoffs are happening across the board, which tends to be the full-time culture of citi. The vibe is very much “run lean” until something actually breaks, and only then consider adding headcount. You have to be intentional about protecting your work-life balance, because the implicit expectation is that you’re always on—24/7, 365—without the support of a properly staffed team.
