Strong start for a career in Healthcare IT but incredibly demanding - Technical Services Engineer Epic Employee Review

Pros

Food, many of the other people, campus, and experience for Healthcare IT as Epic is essentially the only real option for working in this field. Excellent for graduates with degrees that won't pay off student loans or neurodivergent individuals who need assistance getting a traditional corporate job. Hires more on ability than typical methods (knowing someone else in the company). Work can feel ethical as you certainly earn your pay. If you like your work being your identity and life, this is the place for you.

Cons

Hours you work beyond the "45 hours" minimum a week (tracked in 15 minute intervals without lunch breaks included) are entirely dependent upon your customer suite, application, and ability to say no to additional internal work. Your manager will likely not have management experience and will determine much of your experience at Epic. If they don't like you, you will not have a good time without having thick skin. High turnover and individuals who stay are your shareholders. Understand that you will need to protect your own time and that your workload does not decrease when you go on vacation or trips to customers.
