Pros
Excellent training and a solid product/service that makes it easy to pick up the phone and talk about. I wish I fully understood the earnings potential when I joined, I made in year 1 (with hard work) what I thought I might not achieve until at least year 2 or 3. The comp plan was what they said it was, but you’re uncapped and incentivized significantly to overachieve. I’d you’re hungry, disciplined, want to sell and serve the C level, make a lot of money and have many trajectories at a growing company this role could be for you. 5 weeks of training before you go quota live (and you get paid very well during it) Comp plans designed for you to succeed Ongoing training for both managers and employees Transparency on how you rank up against other AES Clear goals & expectations Surrounded by bright talent - not just in sales Technically a ‘nice to have’ product/service, but one that the C level values and cares about
Cons
While I’m very happy here and have performed well, this job may not be for you if: You don’t like framework. Gartner studies best practices and teaches companies how to replicate the best of the best - they do the same with their sales team. The way you did it before you got here might be out the window and you have to be ok with that. For me this meant some of my process looks different and relationship based selling which my old company preached has been replaced with the challenger sale (It will also pay off...). There’s no going rogue here - there’s a consistent process from how you run your calls, to pricing, to how you get paid. You’re a heads down individual contributor or think you don’t need feedback and support (from managers, peers, trainers) this might also not be your place. Gartner is very much a collaborative, coaching culture. Feedback is a part of this job, every day. Whether it be more direct from sales managers or part of the multiple opportunities for peer coaching and deal support this is a regular part of the routine. You want a cushy sales job. Don’t get me wrong the value prop for this service is high, but it requires diligent and quality performance every day. This isn’t a place for someone interested in coasting, If you have a ‘good enough’ bar that taps out at some point you likely won’t be here long term.
