Pros

At face value, my time at Hilton was full of great opportunities to travel and build up my resume. It would be remiss of me to not be grateful for those opportunities and the few lifelong friends I made in the process. That being said, this all came at the cost of a very high stress environment ( I know multiple people who would cry in huddle rooms thanks to the abrasive personalities they dealt with and the massive work load put upon them), passive and apathetic (or for some, down right MEAN) leadership and a lack of acknowledgement for hard work unless you kissed up to the right people.

Cons

Dependent on team, but for most marcomms team members, hours are often long and tedious with lots of travel (which can be fun, depends what phase of life you are in). In many cases Director levels and above don't do much (e.g: leave the office by 4pm to go home or to happy hour) but expect Senior Managers and below to stay late, always be available and single handedly manage agency teams. The environment was highly political and full of favoritism. The reward was high profile campaigns and a sense of pride to work for "cool" company -- pre covid, fancy team dinners/happy hours, snacks and swag were all the norm. Also, they severely underpay for marcomms rolles in the DC area. The travel perks and "glamour" keep people interested in working there.

Pros

Different services and softwares provided by Hilton are convenient to have access to.

Cons

The new PMS system, PEP, is awful. They got rid of F&B Distribution for night audit which means a lot less work for night auditors and way more work for accountants. PEP also doesn’t have the same functionalities as OnQ, the previous PMS. I have not heard any good thing about PEP after all these years. The team member travel discounts aren’t good anymore. They used to be flat rates across three tiers of hotels, but now they are extremely variable and can run very high. On top of that, hotels and resorts still charge team members for parking and service fees, so you still can’t afford to travel on the discount. That is, if you even find the team member rate available. Chances are, you’ll be working for a franchisee, not Hilton itself. They may be one of the world’s best companies to work for, but you probably won’t actually be working for them. California taxes and district fees felt mishandled by corporate.
