Pros
A small steady pay check
Cons
I worked for OfficetTeam, a division of Robert Half in Providence as a Staffing Manager. A ten hour day from 8am to 6pm is required and l was the only one who didn't fall to pressure from management to not take a normal hour long lunch break. Most of my colleagues just sat at their desks for 10 hours. 75% of the job is sales. Cold Calling making 100+ calls a day, which I don't mind. What I DO mind is when I don't get commission for my work. Instead of giving you a commission they call it a "bonus" that you don't get to have until you make the company a certain amount of money. It takes the average person around a year to start collecting the "bonus". After you are eligible to collect a "bonus" which is a percentage of your gross margin, it magically turns into a commission structure as you earn a percentage of your gross margin sales. They just call it a bonus so they don't have to start giving you commission as you build business/makes sales. The base pay is a complete joke for the workload. I was paid more as a recruiter working a normal 40 hour week doing a tenth of the work. The worst part is that it is structured like a pyramid scheme. There was only myself, a woman who was with the company for less than a year, and my boss who has been with the company for 15 years. Like a pyramid scheme, your boss earns a percentage of your sales, probably even while you are not earning it due to the "bonus" structure. They are not looking for people to have a career with them, they are looking to use people short term to try to squeeze business from the companies that everyone has failed getting business from in the past. They literally set you up for failure. I was given like 70 companies to call, all of which had a rich history of lack of business/problems with the company. I understand that you will not get the best leads when you are new to a company, but the most surprising thing is when I asked about generating new business for myself I was told to just stick to the list of companies I was given. This is because management wants to hoard all of the good business for themselves. If you value having a brain, spirit, or a talent for sales STAY AWAY!
