Pros
I have found working on staff to be a wonderful experience - I'm inspired by the dedication and passion of the people I work with, I am constantly given opportunities to develop and grow my professional skills, my managers support me in my short and long-term career goals (as well as genuinely caring about my well-being as a person). Beyond that, the mission of the organization gives me a sense of purpose in my work and I've never been at another company that values constant learning and improvement - across all teams we are constantly seeking to improve the organization at every level and I've seen huge advances in both our team processes and team culture in the years I've been here and it just keeps getting better Side perks include fantastic benefits and a solid salary (high compared to most other non-profits)
Cons
TFA can get a lot of flak as people think you're expected to act and think in a certain way as a part of the organization (very Type-A, aligned with privatization/charter school movement, etc.) but that is absolutely NOT the case in my experience. I have found everyone to be very open to hearing different opinions, as well as a sincere embrace of our organizational core value of respect and humility. That being said, the job is difficult and expectations are high but you are not going to be spoon-fed the resources you need to be successful (I think this is a positive but think in the past we have not done a great job managing expectations for incoming corps members though are improving on that front) - for both corps members and staff, it's up to you to own your professional and leadership development and take responsibility for your work - you aren't going to be micro-managed
