Pros

Training was excellent and thorough, they do a great job at cultivating enthusiasm surrounding working at Formula Fig. Discounted high-end skincare and other products. If you're okay with the below list of cons, it's a decent place to get experience right out of school.

Cons

At the time I was employed, I worked full time hours under a 'part-time' title. I believe this was a way for the company to save money, I was given no benefits whatsoever and no fixed schedule. I know this was an issue for others on the team as well. You would be frequently asked to cover for those calling in sick, which happened very often and left people scrambling or spread thin. The wage was $18/hour at the time, with no tips. The company seems to pride itself on paying above average to it's staff and as reason to not supplement pay with tips, this is just not right in my opinion as esthetician rely heavily on tips in the industry to get by. There is a sort of Fig hierarchy which you will learn very quickly upon working there. One individual in particular, in a leadership role, made my time there very difficult. This person would make me feel like a complete idiot for asking questions whether it was navigating the POS system or looking for a specific item in BOH, they seemed to enjoy belittling or putting down those they decided were not part of the fig inner circle. You have cleaning and chore lists to complete each shift on top of your 10 clients a day; this included cleaning the bathroom ( as an esthetician touching peoples faces this should not be a thing), scrubbing the facial chairs with steel wool, and steam moping floors. These chores did not fall in line with the job description of light house keeping such as folding towels, sanitizing tools, sweeping etc. At times I'd be asked to work in a pod designated for the doctors. This meant using lower quality technology in facials (smaller portable machine) where I'd have to set up the entire room before starting my shift with no additional time factored in before starting my shift.

Pros

Flexible schedule, coworkers and that’s it

Cons

Literally everything! Wages: everyone gets paid a different hourly wage, doesn’t matter if you’re full time or part time, have years of experience or not. Someone that might have less than 1 year of aesthetics experience might end up making 1-4$ more than someone that might have 3+ years experience. Also more than half the time the front desk gets paid more than the aestheticians! Ridiculous! No tips and a bad commission that doesn’t help anyone. If you’re not going to pay your workers a decent fair wage then at least let them have tips and individual commissions. Day to day: having to stand 8+ hours a day while performing treatments is harsh. It’s so unheard of in the industry to be standing while performing treatments. We complain and complain but it falls to deaf ears. Giving distress mats isn’t going to solve the problem!!! The rooms are dark and cramped (if you’re claustrophobic I do not recommend) Management: empty promises. No one listens and when they finally do they only solve 5% of the problem or give a ridiculous solution. No wonder the turn over rate is so high! These people do not care about you and only care about money and the aesthetics of how things look. This company is something else Also the uniforms are so cheap, ugly and hazardous. They get ruined and ripped easily and it gets caught onto hooks or door handles causing some people to get hurt

We were sorry to hear about your experience at Formula Fig, this is definitely not emblematic of the employee experience we aspire to. We'd love the opportunity to connect with you and better understand your concerns. You can reach out to us at people@formulafig.com to set up a time to connect. As a growing company we recognize that our employee experience is continuously evolving . We have made many improvements in the areas described here based on feedback from our valued employees. Here are a few things that we have recently implemented: - Ergonomics: based on employee feedback, we have secured pressurized mats for all of our treatment rooms and front desk and we also have stools which allow estheticians to sit throughout the day. - Wages: We continue to review our base wages and incentives to ensure that our employees are paid competitively within the market and based on the unique skills and experience the employee brings to Formula FIg. - Uniforms: Thank you for the feedback on the design of our uniforms. We're eager to learn more about your experience here so that we can make improvements. Thank you for the time that you took to submit your review and we hope to connect to better understand your experience.

Pros

Good experience and a nice way to meet people and learn about skincare

Cons

Poorly managed and really low wages for Vancouver. Horrible discount and expect way more than what they give.
