Pros

-learning opportunities -exposure to large-scale industrial projects with international clients

Cons

-not much opportunity for advancement -expectation that you will put your work before everything else in your life -management too close to retirement to care much about anything -management will seemingly turn a blind eye to any generally awful, completely inappropriate, and unprofessional staff member as long as the staff member in question has two or more certifications -a general sense of being just a cog the machine that comes from working for a big umbrella company such as Genivar, who bought up all the small independent engineering firms they could in Canada -personally witnessed a manager that would insult and belittle an older individual constantly in front of clients and regular office staff

Pros

#1. Flexible hours #2. Friendly people and management - however, recently it has been changing #3. Lots of young people - lots of young and enthusiastic engineers

Cons

#1. Becoming a "employee = number" type of company - The only thing that is starting to matter is the employee's utilization rate ( #2. Compensation - salary is okay but could be higher. I would say it is around or below the consulting industry average. #3. Benefits - The benefits package is okay but not great. Pretty much 80% coverage for health and dental.

Pros

Tons of action and responsibility immediately. No defined hierarchy. Plenty of young, active minds to bounce ideas off of. If your design is good and you have done the proper checks, it will be incorporated, no matter your experience level.

Cons

Disorganized, lack of foresight on projects and corporation building, Last minute submissions; it felt like I was back at university, scrambling to finish an assignment before its due date.
