Pros

The best part of Global Rescue are the people that are you co-workers (upper management excluded) The grunts of the organization are a great group who are friendly and work hard. A bond is shared amongst them that they are part of a bad situation together. There is a gym in the Boston office that consists of some free weights, a bench, an old rowing machine, and a squat rack. Free Keurig coffee. A lot of potential travel if you enjoy it. Pretty good work-life balance. That's about it.

Cons

I won't bother by saying positive reviews are by the HR staff, if you haven't read other reviews and figured that out yet, take a look. There are many issues at Global Rescue. The previous reviews touch on many of them. Primarily, the issues all stem from a lack of investment in employees. Rather than work with an employee to set tangible goals, training, and other benefits that help them grow and enjoy their work, Global Rescue would rather fire them or wait for an employee to leave. This leads to incredibly high turnover (I was there a little over a year and saw upwards of 15 employees leave in an office of 35 people). The overall moral of the staff is dismally low - mostly because the solutions to many of the problems seem so obvious that it is baffling they are not implemented. While the upper management does recognize that there are issues and has tried to address them, nothing has changed. As many others have noted, almost any move requires the approval of upper management and the CEO. This micromanagement slows any real progress to a halt. Another huge issue is the lack of training and reliability of internal systems. There was no real formal training during my time there and I had to figure most things out by myself. This lead to a long time period of getting up to speed. The IT was being fixed when I got to Global Rescue, and was still being fixed on my way out (more than a year later). Again, the inefficiency is laughable. Upper management will lie to you. They will tell you one thing and blatantly do another. They can often be conniving. They don't invest in the happiness of employees. There are no work sponsored events, happy hours, or work outings. There are no snacks or food readily available. The kitchen tables are plastic folding tables. It makes it seem like a temporary office. Just insane Working from home on occasion only recently became mildly acceptable. It still seems frowned upon. The employee benefits are a joke. Long story short, you are expendable as an employee. Stay away.

Pros

The people you work with are awesome. Hands down, one of the primary reasons I'm still here. Competitive compensation is another reason, and the mutual respect I share with my supervisor is a third. I recently wrote a review on the benefits here, so I won't repeat myself - you can read the benefit reviews if you're interested. The company is constantly growing, changing, and trying new things (which can be both good and bad, depending on your perspective and how close you are to some of those changes). For someone with an entrepreneurial spirit, I love it here. Very rarely do I get bored, and whenever I do I am always able to find additional/new/interesting things to spend my time on (not that I get to ignore the other things I was doing before though). This role has repeatedly pushed me outside of my comfort zone, which has really helped me grow, develop my skills, and generally stay interested. Sure, being pushed out of your comfort zone is... well, uncomfortable. But, that's the whole point! That's how you grow and learn new things. Global Rescue can definitely be a challenging place to work - but that's what I want in a job. If you don't want a challenge, and just want a job where you can show up, clock in, and then clock out and go home, chances are this is not the place for you.

Cons

Some of the feedback is definitely spot on, but I think it's blown a bit out of proportion. I suspect the layoffs over the past winter are partly to blame for that, as a number of good people had to be let go, and that sucks. But, let's be honest, no one WANTED that to happen, including senior leadership; anyone who takes a moment to think it through will realize that no business owner WANTS to let people go, but sometimes they have to make hard choices. There are issues with communication between senior management and front-line employees, and SOME managers do hesitate to challenge senior leadership on things they might disagree with. Company leadership is incredibly cost-conscious, sometimes to the point of being "penny wise, pound foolish." I do feel that, at times, there needs to be more recognition of the fact that you need to spend a dollar today so you don't spend 100 dollars next month.

Pros

I get paid to help people and I like the people I work with. For the size of the company I think the perks and benefits are solid. Yeah, there are people on this website who have issues with the company, but before you believe all of the haters speak to the many employees who are happy but don't write reviews. I feel lucky to work here and I don't work in HR!

Cons

Company communication could be better but there has been improvement on this.
