Pros

Payment is based on how much you work. You determine your own bonus essentially... If you work more than 40 hours per week (billable hours) a percent goes towards your bonus.

Cons

I wouldn't recommend it for someone new to the field. The world of consulting always has the issue of keeping people on 'the bench'. Essentially if the firm is not able to produce enough work you have to wait until they have it... ideally you should use this for training. Which is fine if you are more established and know what to study in order to make yourself most marketable. But if you are new it can be a good deal of guess work... While you are guessing the company may a multi-month dry spell meaning you find yourself fairly bored, consistently studying new (seemingly random) things in order to make yourself employable, oh and your pay is almost cut in half -- which sucks. Upshot, I recommend new college grads go somewhere that focuses on teaching you marketable skills and then lets you put them into practice.

Pros

An amazing place to work where you are treated like a responsible professional and not a 9-5 drone stuck in an office chair. The work life balance is excellent and a cornerstone of the company culture. Working with clients in different industries keeps the projects and technologies fresh. There has been real investment in my career in terms of training, roles, and compensation at my time here.

Cons

The organization's flat structure may not be for everyone. There is plenty of room for career growth, but there is no corporate ladder to claw your way up.

Ownership Matters!

Pros

Ownership culture with flexible schedule-- if you work more, you make more. Professional, local, with opportunities to work with all kinds of companies including outside of Nashville. The ESOP grows MUCH better than a 401(k) if you are fully vested

Cons

Advancement requires self-driven effort, though that was starting to change as I left. Most consultant's experience is based on the quality of the client. The ESOP is not worth it if you don't stay for at least 6 years-- if you're considering employment at InfoWorks, it's best to either get experience and leave quickly, or stay for a long time Wasn't very diverse when I left but with excellent effort looking to grow in that area from all levels of leadership
