Incompetent Company

Pros

If you don't want to do much are not ambitious and don't expect a promotion yet still get paid but be uncertain about your future this company is for you. Comprised mostly by retired or ex-military

Cons

The benefits are really a dog and pony show. When they want you they tell you that there are benefits. If fact what you get is 22PTO of which you have to use 10 days of your earned PTO for holidays. The 401 is a discretionary contributing based on profit which is of course a well-guarded secret and what is issued is minimal. The medical is disastrous with a 5,000 deductible. They just recently laid off 7 people. Those who stayed are for the most part wrong for the job.

The writer has grossly misrepresented the facts. KMS does have a defense industry standard paid time off policy that is fully disclosed and explained in the second paragraph of their offer letters as follows, "Currently full-time employees accrue PTO on a pay period basis. New employees accrue this time at the rate of 22 days annually beginning with their first full month of employment. PTO is intended to provide employees with salary continuity for holidays, vacation, and sick time." In addition, it is explained again in the benefits summary provided to all new employees, "KMS Solutions full-time employees accrue PTO per pay period. Employees with creditable service of less than 5 years accrue this time at the rate of 7.33 hours per pay period or 22 days annually, while Employees with creditable service of more than 5 years accrue this time at the rate of 8.33 hours per pay period, or 25 days annually. PTO is intended to provide employees with salary continuity for holidays, vacation, and sick time. With the exception of scheduled holidays, employees are eligible to use accrued PTO after 90 days of employment." The 401(k) is managed by John Hancock and funded by the company for the benefit of ALL ELIGIBLE EMPLOYEES on a profit sharing basis, regardless of whether they make a salary deferral contribution of their own or not. This retirement contribution by the company for the benefit of the employees has always been 3% or higher of total salary dollars each and every year. Over the last two years it has averaged 5.88%. It is explained in the benefits summary provided to all new hire employees as follows, "The KMS 401(k) plan is available for participation to all qualified employees at their date of hire. In addition to salary deferrals, the company may make annual discretionary contributions on either a profit sharing basis and/or a matching contribution basis equal to a uniform percentage of the amount of salary deferral."

Pros

The majority of the employees are friendly and foster a pleasant working environment. Pay is competitive with other small companies in the DMV area.

Cons

The CEO does not have a college degree or the experience to hold the title. Understandably Gail Urso was put in this position in order for the company to qualify as a small woman owned business allowing them special privileges from the government. A huge misrepresentation to clients and employees. Paid time off is very limited when you dismiss the holidays that are included in the numbers. Promotions are not likely, but a stepping stone company to firms such as CACI, SAIC and Booz Allen. The Melbourne, Florida office was opened as a personal financed move for the CEO and President to their new residence. I, and many others are of the opinion this is an all for quick profit and personal benefit then for the good of the company growth and employees.

Horrible Company

Pros

- Paycheck - Great, talented, down to earth, honest employees

Cons

- All the other reviews of this company cannot be more truthful. - They do not pay for holidays. You must use your OWN Paid Time Off. - The insurance benefits they provide are a joke. You have a $5,000 deductible every year and the month by month cost is overly expensive. -They are not upfront and truthful about their horrible benefits package. They do not provide details about it before you are in the door. They slip the “paid time off can be used for personal leave, sick leave, HOLIDAYS, etc.” inconspicuously in your offer letter. It is very deceiving. - Poorly run company, horrible business plan and upper management (Sr. execs) is lacking. If you do not like to be micromanaged, then this company is not for you. If you want to provide new business or operational ideas and proposition, this company is not for you. Providing new insight and ideas is strictly forbidden. - They are very quick to lay their employees off. And if you do get laid off, they are very quick to dispute your claim for unemployment compensation. - Upper management does not respect their employees, who are very talented individuals and assets. They do not utilize the talent and knowledge of their existing employees. - Lack of ethics with upper management. - They do not create REAL business partnerships. - At the end of the day, the clarity is that they will lie to you.

As it relates to the medical benefits, employees have the option to elect one of 3 different comprehensive BC/BS plans, none of which have a $5,000.00 deductible. The ethics of the company are above reproach. KMS has a published Code of Ethics and Conduct Policy (Policy #806) that all employees receive training on during new hire orientation and also refresher training as required and at least annually.
