Pros

My department (PDS) was the best part of my work experience at this company. I worked with truly talented, caring, and collaborative people. My team was always positive and supportive, as was our supervisor. The leadership of our department was typically positive and I learned a lot from their guidance. The travel for this position offered vast networking with organizations all over the country and helped to broaden my perspective on the field of early education. I'm incredibly grateful for this team and the work we shared together!

Cons

The compensation for this position was not sufficient for the demands of the role. There was also very limited opportunity to be promoted or gain increases in salary. Employees were explicitly and repeatedly told we would not get pay increases, and later found out this rule was seemingly limited to our department while other departments did get yearly increases. We were told this was due to the bonus structure, but in the years I worked here I did not ever receive a bonus. So after several years of very hard work and providing reliably high-quality customer experiences that increased our business - I did not receive an increase in my wages. When things in the industry went into a downturn recently, we were told we would need to work in a 'do more with less' mindset and this was really disappointing after already outperforming my rate of pay for several years. There were continuous limitations on personal time off which caused difficulty for a healthy work/life balance. This, coupled with the uncompetitive compensation, meant that job satisfaction was highly reliant on the job itself and the work culture. The company did not always utilize my department to its fullest potential and it often felt like we were a forgotten side dish. When we were often the most knowledgeable customer-facing employees in their toolkit. I was laid off, after several rounds of company lay-offs, and this process was handled very poorly. They pulled me and several of my teammates into the same zoom call to let us go at the same time. Forcing us to experience each other's reactions without any thoughtful time to discuss our feelings or effectively ask questions about the process before they immediately launched into making sure they collected a list of our company-issued technology (as if they didn't have this list already). This experience really sealed the entire experience working for Lakeshore to me - they used my skills for their benefit for years acting like I was part of their 'family' and treated me like a total stranger on the way out. I've been laid off before, but this was truly the worst I've been treated and I'll never forgive this company for being so cold and heartless after years of my dedication. And this failure is theirs to own due to poor business decisions. The PDS department continued to out perform our expectations year-over-year and yet they gutted the department to save money company-wide.

Thank you for sharing how this experience felt from your perspective; while this was not the intention, we are incredibly sorry to hear you didn't feel cared for. We aimed to approach this difficult process with thoughtfulness and care, supporting those impacted while also communicating quickly and clearly with those who were not which meant not everyone could have a 1:1 conversation. Hearing how it landed with you is important for our continued learning. We remain committed to putting people at the center of how we operate, especially during the difficult moments no one hopes to experience. Thank you for sharing your feedback. - Employee Experience Team

Pros

I learned SO MUCH from this job, the training is intense and there is so much information they give you. They prepare you for working with all aspects of k-12, EC, and more. The job is really rewarding, good work. I loved the customers and my teammates.

Cons

The leadership and management of this company is lunacy. They made so many bad decisions over the last year or so, and it has put them in a really bad place for 2026. They don't trust their employees, they micromanage to the most extreme I have ever seen, and the inside sales leadership doesn't have their priorities straight. They don't care if you hit your goals or if you achieve your targets, they care if you have enough dials and virtual meetings, and if you met 20 other KPIs that don't actually correlate to revenue.

Pros

Team members who cared about the work they do, about the mission of the company, and who were just good people.

Cons

There was a shift in expectations around showing up, doing good work, and having a life outside of work. It could have been changes in senior leadership, or the rollout of an enterprise system that took years to finally go live, or a change in the market demands for the products Lakeshore sells, I don't know, it could have been all of the above and more. What changed over the course of months was leadership demanding performance checks on their managers who were responsible for not only their own ad hoc projects but their team's detailed metrics, training, coaching, and mentorship. Teams had to prove via daily updates of tasks completed or underway on dashboards and tracking lists that had to be manually inputted in Jira, Sharepoint, emails, excel lists, or all of the above, which added undue strain and stress on an already full workload and minimal support from those above them. Managers were told that they couldn't hire replacements for those who left voluntarily or involuntarily, so teams had to make do with who they had and, in some cases, team members ended up reporting to multiple teams. Managers and their teams were told they had to make do with the skills and people they had on their teams for tasks and projects no one on the team were well versed on. This approach was for leadership, affectionately called being "scrappy" but for the frontline folks who had to carry out these new tasks/projects on top of reporting their updates to their managers and amongst themselves for some, with little or no direction, then be called out for not doing a good job, is demoralizing and sad, especially when these same individuals cared about their work and what they contribute innately. The RTO policy applied to everyone except for those in favor with senior management. Before RTO was implemented, it became a requirement to have the camera turned on during conference calls even during town hall meetings and scheduled all-company meetings. If your camera was not turned on, you were reprimanded. Rather than hiring for expertise and paying for that expertise, hiring became, let us see how little we can pay someone and if they turn out to need training for their role, have someone else train them even when that trainer also didn't have wiggle room on their schedule. Its not senior management or senior leadership's job at the company to be accountable for new hires selection, even though they are generally the final say on whether or not folks are hired. Instead, the performance of the new hire is a direct reflection of their direct supervisor abilities to "upskill" or "manage" the hire to meet in a lot of cases unrealistic demands. Those in favor with senior leadership continued to thrive and those in favor to those in favor to senior leadership still had a job.

Pros

Hybrid schedule, on-site daycare, great coworkers.

Cons

Poor leadership decision making and lack of accountability. They seem to have good intentions, but fail to execute or implement. Culture has changed drastically in a negative way because trust has been broken and not sure how the company will do long term.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. It means something that you care enough to help us improve, even after moving on. We absolutely agree with you about our coworkers. The people here are exceptional, and we believe we owe it to each other to ensure a strong and vibrant culture. We also recognize that the past year has understandably impacted trust, and we take that seriously. Our senior leaders across the company are currently leading a comprehensive initiative focused on culture, engagement and retention. We’re driven to deliver improvements every quarter—not just with good intentions, but with follow-through that our team can count on. Thank you for sharing your perspective with us. –Employee Experience Team

Pros

Subsidized on-site daycare for employees Semi-flexible with parents with young children Option for hybrid working

Cons

No growth tracks, advancement is based on popularity not performance. Leadership is complacent and does not receive new ideas or suggestions well. Subtle retaliation when concerns are brought up. For the amount of work we’re expected to do, we were severely underpaid.
