Pros

Recruitment: - Done remotely via e-mail and at the last stage, whatsapp. - Translation standards required were all in black and white. - Just did as instructed after I'd passed the test, and I was in. Working environment: - All requirements regarding translation standards, job scope, and deadlines were clearly stated. - Been working from home since day 1. - No fixed working hours. - Online platform for translation was well equipped and user-friendly. - Bugs were usually fixed within a day. - Management/Senior members of the team were well organised and systematic. - Feedback was given for EVERY submitted work. I could talk to the specific editor for clarifications personally via the chat app. - The chat app provides us a safe space to rant and josh around with colleagues you've never met or yet to meet. Workload: - The requirement's 4k/day, For a newbie like me, it takes about 6-7 hours.

Cons

Recruitment: - I was left out halfway due to the change of person in charge. (But a short e-mail got me back on track. Phew!) Working environment: - Could only work when connected to the internet. No offline options available. Workload: - Not all projects are fun to translate. - Working without fixed hours requires immense self-discipline.

Pros

All digitalised, there’s a chat to help us with our work. Work volume/time is very flexible.

Cons

The instructions are scattered everywhere. May be hard for newbies to the job/app. Some admins/editors are unable to refrain from snarky/sarcastic comments for newbies.

Pros

- No face-to-face interviews when entering, a good command of the English language is more than sufficient - Translation software used is easy to pick up - Friendly, easygoing and responsive colleagues - Workload is based on request, monthly salary depends on output - Very flexible hours, manageable minimum output - Many opportunities to expand experiences besides translation (audiobook making, comic translation, MTPE etc.) - Work-from-home arrangement suitable for those worried about the pandemic - Punctual payments

Cons

- May have to cover for/fix other colleagues’ mistakes - Lots of collaboration and careful proofreading needed, strict rules may be stressful
