Disclaimer: OSG is not qualified as a potential employer for any candidate, which is factual and left to the prospective employees’ individual discretion. If you are a prospective employee, please disregard this internal battle, reach out to current and former employees as well as industry partners; ask the right questions and make your decision independently. Keep in mind, this industry is full of exceptional companies who would value your contribution to this amazing industry.
CONS:
Now to address the internal issues:
OSG in the initial stages of conceptualization and infancy was quite promising. As professionals, we all saw the potential and dedicated ourselves to this vision, we all had that dream; relocating our families, commuting hundreds of miles daily, immersing ourselves for the promise of contributing to this industry.
Visions are vapors and require the skill and expertise of precise navigation. A plane cannot soar without skill, dedication and ethical practices of those charged with navigation (or CEO). The OSG runway was littered with poor mentoring initiatives, poor hiring practices, little or no guidance and again, all are very deeply rooted in the lack of overall leadership; regardless of how many Harvard Business Reviews are read and cited as company policy.
To my valued colleagues:
The failure of the company is not the fault of any one employee and sits firmly on the shoulders of the CEO marriage and all under the guidance and counsel of the incumbent HR manager. You all are consummate professionals, the industry’s best and brightest and I personally thank you all for your intellect and collaboration. I am a better market researcher as a result.
Setting the record straight, there were no poor performers within the company; just very gifted and talented professionals choosing to take a seat on the plane. Unfortunately navigating the ship is/was beyond our control. We were hired to do a job and we upheld that commitment delivering exceptional results, regardless of the trip wires left by careless and inexperienced upper management
The vision statement of the company was rooted in Academia and not anchored to sound business practices, ethical business practices or acumen. As employees and team players, we all did our professional best and individually upheld the ethics of our industry, handing up our collaborative and individual accomplishments in our mission to drive this company forward.
Regardless of the momentum we created, if the one sitting in the cockpit refuses to or is incapable of navigation, we must know we have done all that we could do and accept that we are simply passengers. This is why there are floatation devices on such planes.
