Pros

I have been viewing some negative reviews about Optos recently and these reviews do not represent Optos correctly in my opinion. Optos has great technology and is a great place to work. The pay is competitive, it is a nice workplace environment, they offer a hybrid workday shift, (in office 2 days per week) and offer a good benefit package. New Supervisors have been brought in with technical experience who are building a better team environment. The pace of work is fast, but there are plenty of people to help you when needed. The management team is supportive and approachable.

Cons

In the beginning the training was nonexistent (shadow for a few days and then get on the phone and take calls), but recently a new Technical Support Trainer was brought on board to develop a better training program. The new hires that are brought on board are receiving comprehensive training and if I need help personally, I can go to the trainer to get hands on help.

Pros

Flexitime. Generally relaxed atmosphere. Good facilities.

Cons

Poor management. Most managers and directors have been there a long time with little experience elsewhere and little training given to managers on how to manage.

Stepping stone company

Pros

A few great coworkers and occasion free lunch Great stepping stone company to get your foot in the door if you are looking to get into tech.

Cons

Terrible managment in support department who have no background in tech. Outdated software and tools. Training processes and documentation are absolutely horrid. Micro management and power tripping through the roof with escalations all coming from sales directive. Companies' sales team members are the only ones recognized, awarded, and promoted. Sales team has grown tremendously but growth doesn't reflect the same on all other teams. Top heavy organization, don't expect to have a say in anything. Upper management will not listen to anything that any employees recommend, most likely upper management won't even know your name unless you are in their inner circle. No flexibility, with wfh or time off. Be prepared to get vacation request rejected. Workload of the team is carried by a few good workers, others slack or do minimal work. High turnover rate. 9 to 5 environment with little to no culture.

Pros

Friendly Co-workers Good location Nice office Interesting hardware

Cons

Company has fallen into the trap of being a small company that grew too quickly. Too many long time staff that don't know how to properly manage a technical division. Support software is barebones or cheapest option available which causes multiple issues for usage and customer support. Training and KB documents are scattered in many locations and not friendly to new employees. Be prepared to build all your own guides. Promotions and pay increases are minor and do not keep up with inflation. Upward mobility is fairly limited. Management has old fashioned style similar to a retail environment and treats employees as school children. Micro management and dirty looks if they see you talking to co-workers for too long. Lack of clear goals or progress, very little employee feedback or progress reports. Benefits are mediocre and company has fought hard to push employees back into office despite many wanting to work at home and is currently at a hybrid schedule. Would not be surprised if it becomes 100% in office some day. Company can be used for some tech experience but wouldn't be great for a long term role. It needs to look around and update with the times.

Pros

• Hybrid Work Schedule, 2 Days Office, 3 Days Remote • Coworkers • Pay is great • Tons of food trucks • Yearly Bonus There really is nothing bad to say about Optos. My time here though leaving soon, has been nothing but great. Wonderful coworkers who help you out, large knowledge base, and a lot of training provided. Everyone really wants to help you and see you succeed. You will see this, and can tell given the fact of how long everyone has stayed within the company.

Cons

• Call Center environment, however customers are VERY respectful, it goes a long way especially if you’re not a “talk on phone” person. • Room for growth in other departments is a bit “hard” but only because it being a smaller, however has been constantly expanding.
