Pros

Viewpoint started out as a great company to work for, however aggressive and frequent changes have occurred throughout the stages of acquisition, adjusting to the pandemic, etc. Management is new and lifers have been kicked around, resulting in disoriented teams. As a current employee, I can tell you it's no longer that place to work where employees really know their stuff and the culture has suffered pretty tremendously. Remote working options are available (pro) but you will be monitored by spy software (to keep in mind)

Cons

Pay is way under industry average (con), don't get in and get stuck when you could easily earn double the base + market matched OTE. Managers don't know anything about software (big con). Your meetings are all recorded and transcribed, dissected and put up for display at leadership meetings (hugest con). For me, this is a deal breaker in accepting or continuing any job. Plenty of companies out there in SaaS that will trust you, just making my way through those transitions now. Warning all sales professionals not to get stuck below your worth. Sketchy things are happening at the top level/exec positions, not transparent or trustworthy (beyond con).

Pros

The tech department at Viewpoint is full of dedicated staff who want to help the customers and help each other. The different support and engineering teams are close knit in a way that most companies want to see. (Low level) management is great for this large of an organization. The managers who have direct reports who work in the tech department care about their staff in a way that is fairly rare in large corporate environments. Great ESSP offering, normal 401k Again, my coworkers across the tech department were wonderful at Viewpoint and I've remained in contact with most of them.

Cons

Working with staff or teams outside of the tech department is hit and miss. There are too many people who think it is a visionary question to ask "but we can we do?" when faced with a technical reality. There are a few customers that are, to put it mildly, difficult to work with. The lack of transparency between customer service, sales, and tech teams creates significant hurdles for "line" employees and creates a very negative environment that causes burn out. "The customer is always right" isn't a useful model for a SaaS or PaaS business, and leads to a lot of scenarios where system admin staff are getting pinched between development and support needs. The difficulty of work between sales / customer service / tech once again creates a problem here when technical teams are left to backpedal with angry customers. The lack of support for burnout/stress outside of immediate management is overwhelming, and coupled with strict "blackout" windows for PTO creates work environments that do not line up with the pay. The HR department is unable to provide written policies for critical questions (PTO usage for emergencies, WFH policy, RTO question, medical concerns, ADA compliance, etc), which creates even more stress on top of the blackout window PTO policy for staff. This may be due to the ongoing integration with Trimble, but for an employee it creates a very unstable work environment. Across the company, like many corporations, everyone wants to loop in managers to every conversation and creates headaches to CYA because a lack of 'ownership' permeates everything

Pros

Nice offices right on the river. But now everyone works from home :(

Cons

Viewpoint used to be such a great place to work. Since Trimble acquired them, many middle to upper managers are less than informed about what it's even like to work under them. They definitely will NOT have your back! Interdepartmental collaboration is non-existent and even finding the right person to solve a problem is a real challenge.

Pros

Solid compensation and benefits, some good middle managers

Cons

Monotonous, filled with corporate speak, those to do best embrace the cheesiness. Not a lot of space to innovate or do things as you see fit. Not only need to show results but have to achieve those results in a way set out by the management and training teams.

Pros

Great culture, Good benefits package, friendly managers and HR. They stand up for employees and no not accept customer abuse to employees. Theres also occasionally catered lunches for support.

Cons

Their training is next to non existent and only base level understanding of the software. Severely understaffed teams so they ask a lot of people to do multiple department's jobs.

Pros

Most employees are very nice people. You'll have many opportunities to bond with fellow colleagues, if your manager(s) permit it. Viewpoint throws good parties throughout the year. You get a generous amount of PTO days upfront. There are lots of very smart, dedicated workers. The location is amazing!

Cons

I have heard that the location beyond the train tracks (for East-side commuters) is really touch-and-go - You'll often have to wait long times before moving across the tracks when trains are moving through. If you're coming from the West-side, you should be fine most days. Most managers are good people but are very stuck in their past methods of success. If you're passionate about a modern workplace, technologies, or ideas, you'll likely find Viewpoint challenging - unless you decide to get over it. Executives drive an average culture and often have difficulty understanding the mood of employees. Benefits are slowly eroding or becoming more expensive. Most departments have a very slow career growth path. I knew many employees who moved up just one level after almost a decade of employment. Many managers expect that you'll work through lunch. There are so many useless meetings!
