An HR organization with anti-HR practices.

Pros

Unique business model. Good marketing. Denver headquarters. Approachable CEO who is well-networked in the HR community in Denver. Ok pay. A couple of exceptional employees.

Cons

The problems are in leadership from the top down. If you carve out your niche you'll be fine - for 2-3 years. The turnover is both voluntary and involuntary. hrQ is a small HR organization whose business model is to recruit and place only HR executives and professionals, but doesn't follow basic HR principles. The leadership is comprised of executives and professionals, many from big organizations, but they are terrible managers. The CEO is disengaged from field staff and operations. She is aware of the issues, is concerned only with growing the business to be positioned for sale. Minimal training and no coaching for development for employees. Again, typical of a small business, but unforgivable from experienced career HR people. The volunteer board of directors is kept at arms length, unfortunately. If you join this organization, keep a bag packed - you won't know when the ax will fall. And if it does you won't be given any support whatsoever. The longer-term employees know this and leave on their own before this happens to them.

Pros

Love the culture. We always do the right thing by our clients, candidates and our company. We have the flexibility to make independent decisions, use a lot of common sense and have all been HR practitioners, so we know what it like to sit in our clients seat!

Cons

Constantly making sure we stand out amongst our competitors

Pros

I worked as a part-time, contract, Executive Search Consultant while a team member was on maternity leave. The company and whole team is incredibly entrepreneurial, creative and the best of the best when it comes to HR consulting, contract placement and executive search. They were always willing to train, teach and coach and provide any tools or support necessary to help me be successful. The trust and strength of relationships that they have with their clients, candidates and larger HR network is inspiring.

Cons

None - I hope opportunities to support them again align with my career/availability.
