Sea and Shopee announced our Q2 2021 financial results- a reflection of our successful efforts to bring value to users, and positively impact our communities through technology. We continued to step up our support for businesses and communities, many of whom are still affected by the pandemic. We partnered with local governments to launch shopping campaigns dedicated to local sellers, such as our National Food Fair with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in the Philippines and the Sarawak Digital Mall with the Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation in Malaysia. We also continued to contribute to pandemic recovery initiatives, including supporting national vaccination programmes and donating supplies to those in need. Concurrently, we continued to connect local businesses to online shoppers with our platform. We launched more exciting shopping campaigns, such as our successful mid-year sales to excite our users, while shining the spotlight on local sellers and MSMEs in our markets. We look to make an even bigger impact on consumers, businesses, communities in the road ahead.

Last month, we held Shopee Seller Summit 2021 where we hosted over 700 guests across official brand partners and local sellers on Shopee Singapore. We would like to thank Ms Dilys Boey, Assistant Chief Executive of Enterprise Singapore, for gracing the event as our Guest of Honour, which reaffirmed the importance of public and private partnerships to support capability building and digitalisation efforts of our SMEs. During the event, Junjie Zhou, Chief Commercial Officer, Shopee and several members of the Shopee team shared more about how we are building an ecosystem to benefit businesses and consumers in the long run and also heard from industry speakers and partner brands regarding key insights. We also recognised many local sellers for their resilience and strong growth with Shopee in the past year via an Award Ceremony. We hope the Shopee Seller Summit 2021 provided sellers and brand partners with useful insights, support and motivation, as we continue to work together to bring more action-packed campaigns and exciting experiences for our community in the next half of 2021.
In support of the region’s COVID-19 vaccination efforts, Shopee is humbled to play our part by working with local governments to support key vaccination initiatives. In Singapore, we are working with Gov.sg in the nationwide #IGotMyShot campaign to share key vaccination information on our platforms and encourage our users to protect themselves and their loved ones with the vaccinations. To encourage everyone to book their vaccine appointments, we have also introduced a new Vaccination Leave Entitlement, that will allow our employees to rest at home and monitor their health after their vaccination. Over in Thailand, we worked with local government agencies and social security offices to provide vaccines for our employees in frontline operations teams. As a homegrown company, we believe in uplifting our local communities, and will continue to support the region’s journey to recovery. At Shopee, we believe that technology has the power to drive change for the better. This includes supporting local culture among our communities by promoting locally-made products, and local arts & culture. In Vietnam, we partnered with the Department of Industry and Trade in Bac Giang province to promote locally-grown lychees on Shopee. Together, we helped farmers sell over 15 tons of fruit during our 6.6 Mid-Year Sale. Our National Food Fair campaign in the Philippines has also helped local sellers bring homegrown products like sun-dried sardines, snacks, and more to users looking for a taste of home. Over in Malaysia, we were honoured to partner the Sarawak Tourism Board to host the annual Rainforest World Music Festival and the Borneo Jazz Festival on Shopee Live. As the pandemic continues to affect local arts, we were happy to see tens of thousands of users tune in to enjoy the best of Sarawak culture, talent, and music. As our region becomes increasingly connected through technology, we hope to continue bringing users closer to their roots and empowering local businesses.
Shopee and SeaMoney came together for our Q2 Town Hall, where we took a closer look at how our different local teams have continued to make a positive impact in our communities. We also took the chance to celebrate our outstanding employees, who have exemplified our values both professionally and personally via our Values-In-Action Awards, through leading by example in serving our users to the best of their abilities. This town hall has helped to reaffirm our focus, to use the power of tech and e-commerce to uplift our communities. We want to make a difference for businesses, consumers and local communities, who might have been otherwise left out of the digital economic transformation. As we strive to better serve our users and communities during this period of change, we seek to stay grounded to our values, and to contribute positively as an organisation.
In celebration of Fathers Day, we showed our appreciation for our Shopee working fathers, through virtual challenges, yummy snacks, welfare activities such as eye check-ups, and cool tech gear. Check out these photos featuring our #ShopeeDads across our local offices!
Shopee has joined hands with Ridwan Kamil, Governor of West Java, to launch the Shopee Center in Bandung, and the MSMEs Go Digital programme. The launch event was witnessed by Indonesia’s Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs, Teten Masduki. We are proud to support the Governor’s efforts to accelerate the digital transformation of West Java, particularly in more remote areas, and help local MSMEs Go Digital, and Go Global. In support of the programme, Shopee has pledged to contribute thousands of computers and provide training for village-owned enterprises (known as Badan Usaha Milik Desa, or BUMDes). The Shopee Center in Bandung will serve as an education hub with the goal of supporting MSMEs in 5,000 villages to digitalise their businesses, and to go global by exporting their products to overseas markets.
In May, Shopee had the pleasure of welcoming our very first batch of Shopee Apprentice Program interns in Singapore. Recognising the challenges of today’s employment landscape, we launched the Shopee Apprentice Program as part of our commitment to nurture young regional talents. Through various activities such as mentorship and networking sessions, we aim to equip them with strong professional skills and develop them into young leaders ready for a career in the e-commerce industry. We’re excited for our pioneer batch of apprentices to start their #LifeatShopee journey, and look forward to supporting more meaningful initiatives to promising young talents in the industry. *Photos were taken before the implementation of the heightened COVID-19 safety measures.
With the resurgence of the COVID-19 virus in the region, Shopee has partnered with local governments to support efforts in protecting our communities in the face of the pandemic. In Thailand, we launched ‘Shopee Together’. The program provides a Mobile Testing Unit to the Ministry of Public Health, to support medical staff serving the community on the go. Our 'Tiew Thip Shop' campaigns connect Thai shoppers to local sellers, especially in provinces where the drop in tourism has hit hard. Thais can also shop for essentials with ease through our #ShopeeFromHome campaign. Our vaccination centre in Bandung, Indonesia also started administering second doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. This is part of our partnership with the Ministry of Health to provide 20,000 doses of vaccines in West Java, as part of a shared mission to accelerate economic recovery. In the Philippines, we showed our appreciation to frontline workers through our second Shopee Bayanihan package. This initiative provides them with easy access to daily essentials, along with special benefits on Shopee.
