sleepless night worrying about my manager

      It's a Grnd

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      New York, NY
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Money. Lots of money. Did I mention money?

      Cons

Being good at your job is not enough. In fact, writing bad code quickly that works is more highly valued than good code. You have to chase impact and promote yourself.

      Mixed

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      Menlo Park, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Compensation, free food, team members are mostly competent and great to work with.

      Cons

Short sighted goals, everyone works on 6 month goals and PSC ratings so there's no long term plan. Constant reorgs, regular layoffs. Code base is bloated with a lot of legacy logic. Lack of up to date documentation. Oncalls can be hectic.

      Very team dependant

      Anonymous employee
      Former employee
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Salary, benefits, used to offer remote work

      Cons

Constant layoffs, bad codebase, everyone fighting to show "impact" instead of developing good, maintainable code

      1

Toxic culture with frequent layoffs and poor leadership

      Software engineer
      Current employee
      Menlo Park, CA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

      - Good Benefits - Free food

      Cons

      - Forced RTO even though there's not enough desks or meeting rooms. No flexibility and days in office are tracked - Arbitrary, internally imposed deadlines create fake pressure to deliver substandard work output - AI push from the top including quotas for AI generated code. Hard shift to unproven AI native culture. Internal forum is full of AI generated posts - Everything is bespoke, including non-standard programming languages, databases, and source control - Leadership is evil and ineffective - Pay is not that good anymore and recruiting will down level you and low ball you, which is the start of the abusive relationship this company has with its employees now. - Performance culture is bad. Constantly looking for scope and impact to put on airs so you don't get piped - Frequent layoffs are the norm now - Extensive workplace surveillance and monitoring. Management has many dashboards they can use to look at all aspects of your work. Always feels like you're being watched - Products are broadly anti-social or business failures. Doesn't feel like there's a vision for what this company should be producing in the near future

      Do NOT work for Redmond

      Software engineer
      Former employee
      Redmond, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Free breakfast, lunch, and dinner Pay is pretty good Well, you don’t die like in squid game just laid off.

      Cons

Everything else Condense sucks. Unreadable code written by those who don’t want to give their job away, so intentionally confusing. Managers who were at right place right time. Mine literally got LUCKY with right timing and very limited experience. Directors even dumber — applied once every year for past 20 years and finally made it into Meta. So they hold onto the role like it’s no tomorrow. Colleagues squid game style competition. Work is meaningless — like piece of crap wrapped in sweet chocolate so you only see the chocolate at first. Stress cultures — if you’re not stressed you will be second hand stressed, ohh yeeeaaahhh! Everything is done with stress — it’s like replacing the coffee in the morning, because coffee is free. None of projects here make any technical sense. 2+2=5 because John said so.

      Former intern

      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Lots of feedback-- access to input and 1-on-1s from various teams and roles in company

      Cons

Focuses on metrics like lines of code submitted to measure success
