      Associate Consultant Interview

      21 Jul 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Capco (Toronto, ON) in May 2017

      Interview

Received an email from HR that went straight to my gmail junk mail since it was from an unidentified source. Luckily I came across it. When I informed HR of this they told me this was a "common problem" and that there was "something wrong with their system," Invited me in for an interview but did not advise me as to whether it would be a personality based or case based interview. I asked friends at the firm and they said it would likely be a personality based interview. Arrived at the interview, not knowing who would be interviewing me (very unlike the other top consulting firms I interviewed with) and was given a case. The interviewer was very kind and it was fun to work through the case with him. Was informed the next day that I had made it to the next round (once again, no mention of what type of interview this would be). Interview was set for a week later. 1 day before the interview I received an email informing me that I had progressed to the next interview stage and asking me my availability. I immediately contacted HR and advised them that they had already scheduled me to come in the next day. They got back to me and informed me to come in at the same time - did not apologize for the confusion. At the interview met a consultant and HR. Consultant was nice but HR woman was awful. Was extremely unprofessional (only person in the office dressed unprofessionally) and treated me extremely rudely. She was condescending and seemed to have made up her mind about me before I entered the room. I was later told that she took pride in making candidates uncomfortable and had even made a previous candidate cry a month ago. She tried her utmost best to shake me and wouldn't smile once. During my interview with her I immediately decided I didn't want to work at the firm based on the way HR treated their employees. I was thoroughly unimpressed with the firm and the entire interview process, I cannot begin to imagine how they must treat their clients and employees.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, although we are extremely disappointed by your review. Creating a positive experience for all candidates throughout the recruitment process is incredibly important to us. We set the bar high, both for our recruitment team and those involved in interviewing from other areas of the business. It appears that on this occasion, our high standards were not met and for that we would like to extend a full apology to you. Please note that as a result of your feedback, we will be conducting a full internal investigation as well as reinforcing the existing guidelines and training around interview conduct. We care deeply about both the candidate and employee experience and have won numerous awards as a Great Place to Work. Our intention is always for our candidates to get a sense of the real Capco culture and for our interviewers to bring this to life in the recruitment process. We are sorry that this did not happen for you, but please be assured that your feedback will help us to ensure that your experience is not repeated for other applicants.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Capco (London, England) in May 2026

      Interview

The recruitment process felt genuinely well thought out compared to other firms I interviewed with. The initial video interview involved four experience-based questions and one case study style question which gave a real taste of what the role involves. From there, the in-person assessment centre was intense but energising. You are in a group of up to nine candidates with senior consultants observing throughout, working through a real FS case study and an individual task. The people I met were engaged and clearly invested in finding the right fit rather than just ticking boxes. Dan in recruitment was brilliant throughout and kept me informed at every stage

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

In the individual task, I was given four emails from different stakeholders and asked to prioritise them in order of priority and urgency.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Capco (London, England)

      Interview

I applied for data consulting role. Overall smooth interview process. There was one SJT type online assessment, one technical case study which was presented to a senior/principal consulting, and the final interview was with a principal/managing principal consultant. Overall pretty generic process.
