      Technical Support Representative Interview

      22 Aug 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Google in Feb 2011

      Interview

-He asked me to tell him about myself -Why do you like computers? -I use computers every day, more specifically I use Google everyday whether it is the search engine, Google mail, and the Google App Engine -Described Google App Engine/my projects -He asked me to tell him more about my projects and what aspects of it did I work on? -He asked me to sell him on why a company like Google should utilize my projects -I explained what my projects do -He seemed very interested in my projects and then asked me what specific components of the projects I was involved with -I told him databases, front end user interface, and back end functionality -He proceeded to ask me technical questions regarding wireless troubleshooting -He specifically asked how I would troubleshoot a problem with a wireless connection on a laptop -I said to use device manager to make sure all devices were working correctly -I said also to use the command prompt and use ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew -I fumbled on the next questions when he asked me how to test an ip address -he was looking for the command “Ping” which I promptly remembered when he told me, I then told him everything I knew about the Ping command, I seemed to answer the question correctly -He then asked me about the Maya Computer Animation Suite -I told him I plan on hopefully directing and producing a short animation one day -He then asked me what else I would like to discuss in the interview -I got a little scared when he asked me this question. Isn’t this supposed to be his job!! I told him he can ask me anything whether it be in operating systems, networking, customer service, etc… -He asked me another OS question regarding how I would help a customer solve a problem with computer speed -I responded by telling him to press ctr, alt del and then go into the processes tab and see if any of the processes where taking an abnormally large amount of memory. If this process is not system specific I would tell the user to stop this process and restart the computer -He responded by saying that this answer was exactly what he wanted. -He then asked me where I see myself in 3 years. -I told him that I see myself in a managerial role because I enjoy conversing with people and interacting with people. I am an excellent communicator and very detail oriented and these attributes would lend themselves nicely to a position at Google. -He said that he liked to hear that I cared about the customer and I am happy when I fix problems and that this excites me. -He then asked me if I have any questions for him -I asked him about the internal tech team -I also asked him whether he liked working at Google and whether the hype is true -His answers were cookie cutter answers but they did the job -He told me thank you for speaking with him and said good bye -I said goodbye and he promptly hung up
