I did this job successfully for UHG, winning kudos and was put on a specialized team to enhance the customer experience. My numbers, stats, surveys were excellent. The catch is I worked as a contract employee thru another company. I wanted to work directly for UHG because the contracted company was unprofessional in many ways. I applied online, did the testing, wrote a very explicit cover letter about WHY I wanted to work remotely, and directly and they spent a LOT of $$$ training me, and I was a top performing rep. UHG pays MORE for the same job than the contractor does and I thought that was unfair. I wanted the same rate of pay for the same job. I left the contractor, but on good terms, but they rejected my application on the grounds I was not qualified. I find this curious, I was qualified enough to be hired, qualified enough to receive great reviews at the meetings when they visited our contracted site and meet one on one with those of us they wanted to put on the specialized retention team. But I am not qualified to be a direct employee. I find this not only confusing, but somewhat insulting. I was qualified enough to advocate for their members, and those members wanted me to be their point of contact for the service I provided. But I am not qualified to be a direct or remote hire, even though I am fully trained, and have the proven track record. Meeting with "their" people on site they wanted professionals, they wanted advocates that cared. Good employees are not easy to find, look at the attrition rates, there was RECORD attrition from new hires that couldn't cut it.
